Welcome to the new school year!

Welcome Back to Franklin Academy

Dear Franklin Families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I'm so excited to begin another amazing year at Franklin Academy Boynton Beach Campus. I am starting my 9th year as an administrator at this campus and I cannot wait to welcome all of our students back to school. I'm really looking forward to working with our staff and families and strengthening the school, home, and community connection. Our theme this year is, "Shine Bright Like a Diamond", as we are starting our 10th year. We have so many exciting things planned for this school year. One new addition for middle school is an advisory period. Every middle school student will have a teacher for their "homeroom", where they will have SEL lessons, complete some online math and ELA, have data chats, and so much more. We will be addressing the whole student, academically, socially, and emotionally. It will be imperative for students to arrive at school on time for this 30 minutes start to their day!

I Want My Child's Classroom/Schedule Changed

Dear Parents,

As we begin the 2022-2023 school year, I would like to touch on one of the most common request of a parent to the administration in the first few weeks of school. This request is "I want my child's classroom (course) changed." Allow me to explain a few things. Preparing classroom rosters is a collaborative effort amongst all staff members and administration in the building. This process began in the spring and went well into the summer.

There are many contributing factors that go into creating a classroom roster. For elementary school we look at the personalities of the students and teachers, the involvement level of the families, how many students are receiving exceptional services, how many boys and girls are in the class, the academic levels of the students (for differentiation purposes), which students had a tough time getting along with specific students the previous year, and at times, which students socialize more when they're around specific students. Again, this process took us several weeks to complete.

For middle school, we look at school performance, FSA scores, teacher input, behavioral information, as well as district requirements and the pupil progression system. We will not make any changes in a middle school student's schedule, unless they are in the wrong level of a class. All electives add value and cannot be changed at this time.

Parents and families I just wanted to inform you on the dynamics of creating classrooms and schedules. The requests have a MAJOR domino effect on EVERYTHING. My intent is to share some knowledge of the inner workings of our school and how we plan for the best for all of our students.

Therefore, when you make a request, not only does it affect your child and the teacher's classroom they're moving to, but it also affects the schedule of other students, the schedule of support staff who are providing interventions, the culture of the class, and may have an effect on the teachers schedule itself.

In conclusion, I always suggest to parents to do a few things before requesting for their child's teacher to be changed. Meet with the teacher, understand that students will adapt to multiple teachers with different personalities, this is excellent for social development. Most importantly, understand that we have the same goal and that is for your child to receive a world class education, in a safe and nurturing environment, and for them to reach their full potential.

Dismissal Policies and Procedures

All parents, guardians, and others picking up students must download the DashPass Application in order to pick up their students at dismissal. Families picking up elementary students in carline may start to come on campus at 2:10 for the 2:15 PM dismissal. You should pull all the way around and then your student will be dismissed via DashPass starting at 2:15 PM.

Elementary students not picked up by 2:45 PM will be taken inside and we will call home. After the first two weeks of school, there will be a charge of $1 a minute for late pick up.

Middle school parents can start coming on campus at 3:10 PM for dismissal and follow the same procedures. If you have students in elementary school, please make sure to sign up for Sibling Link and instruct your middle school student to pick them up at dismissal from the cafeteria, before heading outside to carline.

Middle school students not picked up by 3:45 PM will be taken inside to call home. The same late fee will apply to them, after the first two weeks of school.

**You will register for sibling link with your homeroom teacher when school starts.
