We are so glad you're here!

Though the 2020-2021 school year will look differently than any previous year, we are so excited to meet our students and develop their music education! Please scroll to the bottom of this page to get to know Ms. Altman and Ms. Wilson, and visit our teacher pages on the MMS website (each linked in our biographies). If you are new to Murphy, welcome!!, it is an awesome place. Shout-out to our returning students and families - thanks for trusting your Choir Mamas to expand your choir life through new experiences this year!

In Beginning Choir (periods 1, 6, 7) and Men's Choir (period 2), the students are divided between two rosters, but will have both Choir Mamas in their classes each day. In A Cappella Women and Concert Women (periods 3 and 5), Ms. Altman will be the primary director. In Select Women (period 5), Ms. Wilson will be the primary director. Periods 2, 3, and 5 are all Advanced Choirs.

The first day of school will be a mixture of school-wide information from the MMS principals and counselors, as well as meeting your daily schedule of teachers! Everything will be done via Google Meet, and you'll receive information on how to join each of your classes prior to Wednesday, August 12.

If you have not picked up your PISD Chromebook, school supplies, or math workbook, be sure to contact the MMS front office so that you have all of your necessary materials to get the year started: (469) 752-7000.

We wish we could welcome you into the Murphy Choir room with big smiles and a first day of singing (since that's what we do!), but we'll have to welcome you into the room virtually this year! Hold on tight, it's going to be quite the wild ride!

Much Love,

Ms. Altman and Ms. Wilson

Murphy Choir Mamas

Ms. Melanie Altman

Ms. Altman has taught for eight years as the assistant Choir director at Murphy and will take over as head Choir Mama to start her 9th year of teaching! Born in Washington, DC, Ms. Altman also spent part of her life in New Orleans, where she joined choir in sixth grade and began studying private voice. Upon graduation from high school in Texas, she attended Sam Houston State University (Go Bearkats!) and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education.

Aside from teaching choir and laughing with her students every day, Ms. Altman sings soprano two with the Plano Civic Chorus and enjoys performing as a chorister multiple times throughout the year. Ms. Altman loves to spend time outside of school cheering on her favorite football teams with her family, her two fluffy cats, and her friends. Her favorite parts of her job as an MMS Choir director are getting to know her students, being a goofy Choir Mama, and stretching before singing! :)

Ms. Courtney Wilson

Ms. Wilson is excited to begin her 4th year of teaching as the Associate Choir Director at Murphy Middle School! She grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and went to college in north Louisiana at Northwestern State University where she received her degree in Vocal Performance. She then moved to Dallas to pursue her Masters Degree from SMU in Music Education, where she graduated in 2017. She previously worked as the Assistant Choir Director at The Classical Center at Brandenburg Middle School in Garland, Texas.

Outside of MMS, Ms. Wilson enjoys playing with her adorable schnauzer, Duke! She is also involved as a member of the Praise Team at One Community Church in Plano! Ms. Wilson is so looking forward to getting to know all of the wonderful choir students and developing relationships that will last a lifetime! Go Mavericks!
