Bicycle Safety and Canyon Bike Ride with Principal Mosgrove
The D.A.D.S. Group is hosting this fun event at the main school parking lot tomorrow, Saturday, October 26 starting at 9 am. Dads will be on hand to pump up tires, make adjustments, and check to see that bikes are in good running condition. All riders including parents should have helmets. There will be a bike handling course for the kids to enjoy until about 10:20 am. At 10:30 am Principal Mosgrove will lead us into the canyon for the ride to the waterfall. Ride at your own pace, return when you want. Some water and snacks will be available. Plan on the event lasting until about noon. If you would like to help out email Victor at pvesdads1@gmail.com. Hope to see you out there!
Costume Parade Reminders
By Mike Mosgrove, Principal
Park Village Elementary is proud to announce its Annual Costume Parade, scheduled for Thursday, October 31 at 9:15 am on the back field/track. All children in grades Pre-K through 5 who wish to participate will parade in their costumes around the track and then return to their classrooms. Children who don’t want to wear their costume to school may bring them in a paper bag and change prior to the parade. Parents are welcome to join in the fun and costumes are encouraged. I know many of you selected costumes for the Costume Parade. Here at Park Village we are promoting a safe and friendly environment. Please remember to keep the following guidelines in mind when selecting a costume to wear for the parade:
- Avoid masks. If a costume requires a mask, it may only be worn during the parade. Additionally, please make sure vision is not impaired while worn.
- Wear shoes. Safety regulations require students to wear shoes at all times.
- We promote a safe and friendly environment at Park Village. Simulated weapons, blood, and gore don’t support this philosophy. Toy guns, toy knives, handcuffs, swords, nunchucks, etc. are not permitted. Any child with bloody make-up will be asked to remove it.
- Costumes that portray violent movies/TV shows (Scream, Freddy Kruger, etc.) are not appropriate at school. Remember, we have young children participating in this activity. Save these costumes for after school events and trick or treating.
- Display respect for other cultures. Stereotyping or ridiculing other races or cultures is unacceptable.
Thank you for following these guidelines. We have children of all ages at Park Village and we want to be respectful, fun, and full of smiles for all.

Thank You Book Fair Volunteers
By Sandi Kerkhove, Book Fair Chair
Thank you to all the wonderful Book Fair volunteers for your time, energy, and kindness in helping our students find the perfect books - and explaining how tax works! And a big thank you to the parents who supported this awesome fundraiser by sending money in with your students to purchase books and other items. The kids absolutely loved the Book Fair and this is truly my favorite time at Park Village. I love seeing the students get so excited about books, learning about tax, and trying to send their last penny. Thank you again - this fundraiser would not exist without your help and support.
Character Counts! & Red Ribbon Week

Volunteer Opportunities for 2019 - 2020
Park Village prides itself on our programs and events. However, they are all run by parent volunteers, and we need your help! We have opportunities of all types and sizes. Even one hour once a month can make a difference!
- Library - Help reshelve books. This task is constant and can happen any time of day. Perhaps you can help after morning drop-off or while waiting to pick up your child in the afternoon? You can make a difference in as little as 15-20 minutes. I just need folks to stop by regularly. Many hands make light work! No experience is required. If you’re interested, please email me at sfleming@powayusd.com, or stop by the library to chat.
- Recycling - Help sort and crush recycling. Second Wednesday of every month, 8-9 am, ESS Parking Lot. Even 15-30 minutes before school is a big help!. Contact Victor at pvesdads1@gmail.com.
- Science Night Volunteers - You will oversee a station while our little ones sharpen their science skills with their parents. Please sign up for a night when your own child is not attending - PV Science Night Volunteers. Contact Shannon Nellies at s.nellies72@gmail.com.
- Marquee Editor in Chief(s) - Update the marquee in the front of the school with our PVE news, and help keep our families informed! Contact Gigi in the office.

Calling All Military Families
Parking Lot Reminder
Please remember that the parking lot is for teachers and staff only, with the exception of the clearly marked visitor spots. We have many support staff members whose hours begin after class is in session. When they have to spend their time searching for parking off campus, it negatively impacts our student services. Thank you for your help!
