A Note from Mr. Ciochina
As we approach Thanksgiving, I am a very thankful principal. I am thankful for our hardworking, talented, and enthusiastic students who show up each day ready and eager to learn and grow—I am amazed each day at what our students accomplish and do! I am thankful for our caring, passionate, and dedicated teachers who work tirelessly for each child. I am thankful for our staff members who consistently go above and beyond to help make Timothy Ball great. I am thankful for the parents and families of our students who continue to work together with our staff as we help each child grow. I am thankful for our community members and organizations that help contribute to each child at Timothy Ball reaching his or her highest potential.
Thank you for being a fantastic partner in education. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

IMPORTANT CHROMEBOOK INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS IN GR 2-5
On Thursday, December 5th, we will be exchanging your child's G6 Chromebook for a newer G7 Chromebook. We've identified some challenges with the current device, and the manufacturer has agreed to replace them. In order to expedite the process, please do the following:
- Send your child's Chromebook to school on Thursday, December 5th.
- Remove any protective cases from the device.
- Remove any external equipment (i.e. wireless mouse/dongle, corded mouse).
The current G6 chargers your child has at home will continue to work with the G7 model. If your child currently has a loaner Chromebook, please send that device back to school with the charger on Thursday as well. We will provide your child with the G7 device upon return of the borrowed item.
Please direct any questions to our Media Paraprofessional, Mrs. Kerr. She can be reached at 219-663-0047 ext. 21116 or skerr@cps.k12.in.us.

Social-Emotional News from Mrs. Holok
It’s that time of year where many people begin thinking about everything they have to be thankful for. I feel extremely thankful to be a part of the Timothy Ball Elementary School community! Although it’s nice to count your blessings on Thanksgiving, being thankful throughout the year could have tremendous benefits on your quality of life including enhancing our ability to be empathetic. According to 2012 study by the University of Kentucky, grateful people are more likely to behave in a prosocial manner even when others behave less kind. Study participants who ranked higher on gratitude scales were less likely to retaliate against others, even when given negative feedback. They experienced more sensitivity and empathy toward other people and a decreased desire to seek revenge (2014). Please see the list below of three scientifically proven benefits of gratitude which can motivate your entire family to give thanks all year round. Have a healthy and Happy Thanksgiving!
1. Gratitude opens the door to more relationships. Not only does saying “thank you” constitute good manners, but showing appreciation can help you win new friends, according to a 2014 study published in Emotion. The study found that thanking a new acquaintance makes them more likely to seek an ongoing relationship. So whether you thank a stranger for holding the door or you send a quick thank-you note to that co-worker who helped you with a project, acknowledging other people’s contributions can lead to new opportunities.
2. Gratitude improves physical health. Grateful people experience fewer aches and pains and they report feeling healthier than other people, according to a 2012 study published in Personality and Individual Differences. Not surprisingly, grateful people are also more likely to take care of their health. They exercise more often and are more likely to attend regular check-ups with their doctors, which is likely to contribute to further longevity.
3. Gratitude improves psychological health. Gratitude reduces a multitude of toxic emotions, ranging from envy and resentment to frustration and regret. Robert A. Emmons, Ph.D., a leading gratitude researcher, has conducted multiple studies on the link between gratitude and well-being. His research confirms that gratitude effectively increases happiness and reduces depression
