Halloween is Coming!
We can't wait to add another dose of "normal" back into the school year, and are excited to share that Halloween parties and our annual costume parade are back! While parties will look a bit different than they did prior to the pandemic, it will still be a spooky good time! A very big thank you to our Highland PTA, and all of our room parents, for providing this fun experience for our students. Halloween information, including costume guidelines can be found below. More information on the Halloween parade and parties will be shared next week. Be on the look-out for student MAP reports, including RIT scores and percentiles in your Huskies backpack today. Please let me know what questions, concerns, or feedback that you have. Have a great weekend!

Attention Free Lunch Participants
If students are signed up for the school lunch program, they will be given a lunch each day, rather than it being an option. We are happy to be able to continuing to offer the lunch and snack option. As a reminder, if you no longer would like your child to participate, please contact the Highland main office.
Optional Student COVID-19 Testing
Voluntary COVID Testing Program Signup
District 58 encourages families to consider signing up for free PCR COVID-19 testing for District 58 students. Registration for this optional testing program is open and our program is actively underway.
Families can select from any or all of three types of testing services including:
Weekly screening testing (routine testing)
Symptomatic testing (testing when a student or staff member develops symptoms at school)
Test-to-Stay (testing for situations in which a student has been identified as a close contact)
Test-to-Stay, an IDPH-endorsed process that allows a close contact to remain in school with regular antigen testing, will begin next week. Please see the district communication regarding the IDPH's guidance regarding when Test-to-Stay can be implemented in schools.
The student sign up for our school can be found below.

Coming soon...Books, books, and more books!
The Highland Virtual Book Fair will take place Tuesday 10/19 to Thursday 10/21. Click here to shop the fair! Every purchase earns rewards for Highland. Books will be shipped to the school & distributed directly to the kids. Be sure to check your teacher’s wish list & get them a little something - we know they deserve it!
The LRC needs your help! We have opened signups for volunteer shifts throughout the rest of October - sign up here! Please sign up for individual shifts that work with your schedule.
The LRC is a great place to volunteer! It's a quiet and lovely spot to spend some time. Volunteers will be helping organize and reshelve books. Ms. Mara is also looking for help with covering books in protective plastic (remember covering your books with brown paper back in middle school? similar activity!). No prior training or experience necessary!
Thank you again to everyone who made the Read-a-Thon a great success! Prizes ordered from the rewards store will be arriving soon and will be sent home with students next week.
As we shared previously, we are working on a process to make the PTA directory accessible to members, as the directory feature on our new platform, MemberHub, is not user-friendly. We will be sharing that info with PTA members soon. Thank you for your patience! If you have yet to purchase your PTA membership and would like access to the directory mentioned above, please use this link to join us: https://highland58pta.memberhub.com/store.
