Sorella Announces 2018 Board of Directors
Dear Members,
As I sit back and think of 2017 and all we have accomplished, I am even more thrilled with what the future looks like for our club! This will be my eighth year as a Sorella club member, sixth year as a Sorella board of director’s member, and my second year serving as the Sorella President. This club and board of directors have evolved so much from the time I decided to join.
This year we will have 13 ladies on the board of directors as a whole, out of these ladies we have five new board members that are taking the place of existing positions that were vacated. Our board is comprised of mountain, gravel, road, and cyclocross racers and riders, with a wide age variety and geographical location span.
The 2017 and 2018 board met last week during our annual “passing of the torches” meeting. New board members were welcomed, the 2017 year was reviewed, and the 2018 year was planned. We are excited about a couple things we would like to share with you all:
· 2018/2019 Kit design- more high visibility and eye-catching, Bonnie Supplee, Sarah Hoots, Jean Miller and their team from the BOD are to thank for this result!
· 2018/2019 New cash sponsor- Steel LLC, Robin Allen and Cristy Smith worked hard throughout 2017 to bring on this new cash contributor.
· 2018 New live club calendar- club members will now have a calendar to post and also know what rides and clinics are going on in their area. Thanks to Angela Barros for leading this initiative.
· 2018 Member appreciation gift- more to come but I will let you know we are working on the perfect accessory to your new kits to be given out at the annual meeting!
I am proud to present the Sorella Cycling board of directors for the 2018 year. These ladies put in multiple hours of volunteering each month in order to make sure our club runs and grows:

Tell Us About Yourself: Occupation, relationship status, children, pets, where you live, where you're from, hobbies, etc.:
I am a 51 year old mother of two wonderful sons Jacob 28 and Levi 29. I’ve ridden bikes my entire life. I am a Georgia native and born in Marietta. I hold a Specialist Degree and teach mathematics at a local high school. My husband Brad and I love being adventurous and being outdoors. Besides mountain biking we kayak (rivers, salt marshes and the ocean) and hike almost as much as ride. We even have a “peddle -paddle” route at Sope Creek. I run a high school USAC team that has competed at Nationals and head coach of NICA for four years with the past two years holding the State titles. I am retiring from coaching this year.
What made you decide to join Sorella:
I had seen all the Sorellas racing and wanted to be part of a community of ladies.
Do you do Road, Mountain or Cyclocross:
Mountain mainly but I have a road bike and love all kinds of riding.
Types of bike(s) you ride:
I own two XC race bikes. Dragon XC Carbon 29r hardtail and Dragon Carbon 27.5 full suspension.
Your Favorite place to ride:
Blankets is my first love but all the local SORBA trails see me once a week from Allatoona to Sope to SORBA Woodstock trails. I love the mountains and prefer Elijah and Blueridge trails for my weekends. I’m always looking for a new trail.
Your dream ride:
I’ve taken some dream rides in my past. Moab, Fruita, Snowshoe, Bentonville, Pisgah, and looking for a new one this year. I’ve been told there is some fresh dirt in North Carolina I need to check out this summer.
Biggest accomplishment on your bike:
Getting my 3X34 Snake Belt buckle and coaching students athletes to the top levels!
Why you love being a Sorella:
It’s a community of women committed to building other women up and helping them develop as riders. It’s a place where women who love to ride belong and can find community. We are known as being skilled riders and our great reputation speaks for us.

Our monthly Silver Comet Trail rides have been great with over a dozen participants (when weather permitted). With a new year comes a new announcement. Our monthly Silver Comet Trail rides are now presented by Emory Sports Medicine, one of our long time Sorella Cycling sponsors. Emory Sports Medicine wants us to know should we ever need them, they are there for us!
Our Sorellas have said they want to continue riding through the winter months. So...we are making a few adjustments for at least our winter rides. (If there is rain, snow or ice in the forecast, the ride will be canceled so stay tuned to the invite for weather updates).
We will start at 1PM and start from Silver Comet Cycles (mile 4.2 on the Silver Comet Trail). This gives us 3 different distances to meet the needs of all riders: 22 miles, 32 miles and 54 miles (with many other options as well since it is out and back).
We invite all Sorellas, fellas and friends to join us!
