PHASE 2 UPDATE
FOR ELEMENTARY PARENTS — October 16, 2020
PHASE 2 STARTS NOV. 4
LEARNING MODEL OPTIONS FOR PHASE 2
R2eSchool
Students participating in the R2eSchool will continue in this learning model.
eLearning
Classroom Communities
MORE ABOUT THE CLASSROOM COMMUNITIES LEARNING MODEL
Students come to school five days a week and are organized in classroom communities.
Each classroom community stays together primarily in one location during the school day, including meals and most related arts classes.
Students will get recess, weather permitting.
Face coverings are required of students and employees.
We will practice social distancing to the greatest extent possible. In classroom seating arrangements where 6 feet of social distancing is not possible or optimal, we will use barriers/dividers.
DEADLINE TO REQUEST A LEARNING MODEL CHANGE — OCT. 19
Requests for changes can be submitted after October 19 but they will not go into effect until December 7. The next deadline will be 9 a.m. on December 3 and the change in learning model will go into effect on December 7. See the chart below for all the dates.
DAILY ELEMENTARY SCHEDULE
- ARRIVAL TIME AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS: 7:30–8:30 a.m.
- INSTRUCTIONAL TIME: 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
- DISMISSAL: 2:40 p.m.
Please note that your child's school may send you a more specific schedule as some schools may stagger arrival and dismissal times for car riders.
Students attending school in-person will have opportunities for mask breaks and students participating in eLearning will have opportunities for breaks away from the computer screen.
TRANSPORTATION
- Bus transportation will be provided during Phase 2.
- Routes will be finalized after Oct. 19 and will be posted on the district's website at www.richland2.org/busroutes. Please note the bus routes currently posted are routes based on student data from the beginning of the year. Updates will be made before Nov. 4.
- We do, however, encourage parents who are able to transport their children to and/or from school to do so, as this further reduces the number of students on the bus.
MEALS
In Phase 2, we will resume providing meals at school sites. Our community-based food distribution will come to an end because our buses will be needed to transport students to and from schools. Students attending school in-person, of course, will eat on-site. Students participating in e-Learning will have the opportunity to pick up meals from their respective schools.
