Principal Message
Not Just Between the Bells
When we talk about choosing kind with students, we say that kindness is a way of living, not just a way to act between the bells of school. We talk about how kindness and empathy make the world a better place. The social media post below was an example of how kindness can have a significant positive impact on others.
I don’t know if the students referenced in this post were former GRE students or not. Half of me wishes they were, because I would be proud that our students still exemplify kindness beyond the school bells. However, the other half of me wishes they were not, because it shows that kindness is instilled beyond the walls of GRE. Either way, it is a positive example of the impact kindness has on others….even if the “big boys” will never know about their impact in this specific event and the appreciation shared in the social media post.
This was the first week of “mask optional” for students. Teachers spent a lot of time and/or thought into closely monitoring conversations among students and as a class to support individual student choices. We will continue to monitor student comfort and the district guidance as we adjust our mitigation strategies with our school activities. We still have some great activities planned for this year and will consider the guidance as we plan the final logistics of what these activities look like in a school setting.
Have a great long weekend,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D.
