Important Car Rider Reminders
- Students are not to be dropped off before 7:25 in the morning.
- Students must be dropped off at the front doors, not the bus rider entrance.
- No left turns into the parking lot beginning at 7:30 am.
- Students must be signed in after 7:50 am. Please do not drop them off and watch them walk in if a teacher is not outside and present.
Reminders about Students Attending Home Games
Here is a reminder from Coach Wood, Athletic Director:
Any middle school or elementary school student(s) that attend a Greenbrier School District athletic event must be accompanied by an adult to get into the game and they are expected to sit in the stands and watch the game. Students who are dropped off without supervision, will not be admitted and will have to be picked back up immediately. Also, if a student exits the gym they will not be allowed to re-enter the gym. All Greenbrier students in middle school or above must have their ID badge to be admitted in the games for free.
A Note from Nurse Gina
- The Nurses office is in great need of boys pants. They can be any size.
- Please send an extra change of clothes with your child. We are getting into the rainy months and sometimes kids will get wet at recess. Thank you!
Here are links for healthy snacks and Heart Healthy recipes. They look yummy!
Instructional Reminders
- Instruction begins at 7:45 and the tardy bell rings at 7:50. If you arrive past 7:50 please walk your child to the doors so you can sign them into the office.
- Parents will be able to come eat lunch with their child this year in the cafeteria or our outdoor picnic area.
- Your child may bring a water bottle to school and refill it our touch less water fountains.
Phone Notifications
The number that is used to send calls from our notification system is 1-855-269-0502. The district cannot control what each phone carrier displays for the name or location on the caller ID. We recommend that you save this number in your phone as a contact with something like "Greenbrier Schools Messages." You can also call this number anytime to play back messages that have been sent to your number within the last 30 days.
Lost and Found
Ms. Katie and Ms. Nancy have gone through the lost and found and returned labeled items to their owners. Parents, please come check lost and found if your child is missing any clothing items. At the end of the month, we will donate left over clothing or wash them and put them in our clothes closet.
Many of the items are name brand and in excellent, like new condition! We want to get these items back to you!

Wonderful Things are Happening at Westside!
4th grade Students used the Four Question Strategy to design and test how height and mass affect the distance and speed a toy car will travel!
Kiddos are Reflecting on 2nd 9 weeks learning targets based on our CFA data and determining next steps and goals to work towards in the 3rd 9 weeks. We plan to share these at our parent teacher conferences coming in February!
First grade has been learning about light and how light travels. Today Mrs. Duncan led two experiments using glow sticks! We tested to see what temperature of water allowed light to travel better. We learned that the light becomes much brighter in warm water!
2nd graders have started their Opinion Writing unit! We read “Hey, Little Ant” and chose either Team Kid or Team Ant. We came up with reasons to support our choice and shared our opinions and reasons with each other!
Counselor Corner
This week, we will kick off Kindness Week with grades 3-5. Our lessons will be geared toward kindness to get ready for next week.
Next week, we start The Great Kindness Challenge. Your child will be bringing home a checklist of things to complete by the end of the week to earn a prize. We have lots of things planned and can’t wait to see our students go out of their way to show Kindness to others.

Curiosities and Puzzlements: These are fun and interesting things to watch that will puzzle your child's mind! Enjoy!
- Stephen Orlando creates "light paintings" by attaching LEDs to kayakers' paddles.
- A mesmerizing map of popular US baby names animated by year. Your kids will be on the edge of their seats to see who finally dethrones Mary! (Pause at around 0:36 and predict). And will they cheer when Mary retakes the crown? Definitely worth clicking the gear and slowing this one down to half speed.
- Enjoy the suspense of this lava creeping closer and closer toward the camera! Be sure to pause and take predictions before things really heat up at 0:48! And keep it going until 1:25 to see how the camera turns out.
- Timing is everything in this OK Go’ video, which is 4 seconds of real-time stretched into 4 minutes. It's a wonderful chance to practice noticing. How many weird little details can you all spot? (Naturally, there’s a making-of video!)
- David M. Bird creates little figures from acorns and photographs them in nature. In this video, he tries very hard to capture an oriole. Thanks to Cindy for this one! And check out David's site.
