November Newsletter

Dear LLC Families:

Thanksgiving is a day to express gratitude to those who have made a difference in our life. This is the time of year when we pause from our busy lives and gather with our loved ones. Life is full of simple joys, like when you smell something yummy or step from the cold into a nice warm place. If we were to celebrate these simple joys every day, our life would be one long holiday celebration. We hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving and that you continue to enjoy the holiday season, and experience amazing moments with your loved ones along the way. It is our wish for you that you slow down and embrace every ounce of the little joys around you.

At LLC, we are very thankful for relationships. Having the opportunity to get to know you and your children better with each interaction has been fulfilling and continues to be a joyful experience. Each day as our students walk in, say good morning, and strut to their classroom with confidence is one of our simple joys. Watching them grow just a little bit more each day is our happy place. Thanks for sharing your children with us!

Be well,

Deanne Guastello

A Good Start Makes All The Difference!

Routines and structure give students a sense of understanding of the world and help them develop good habits and organizational skills. When students arrive at school on time they feel calm and ready to go through their daily expectations. It is critical that students attend each component of the curriculum as information overlaps into other parts of the day. Drop off begins at 7:50 AM and the school day starts at 8:00. Our students immediately begin their day with breakfast, the question of the day, signing in, and their morning meeting. Please do your best to help your child be on time. As always, thank you for your partnership.

Parent Teacher Conferences 12/6 and 12/7

Parent-teacher conferences are an important opportunity to discuss your child’s progress each school year. Conferences are now being scheduled with your child’s teacher for December 6th or 7th. Teachers will offer in-person or the option to meet virtually. We estimate that most conferences will last approximately 20 minutes. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.

Emergency Contacts

It is vital to have an emergency contact name and number listed in your PowerSchool account. This person should be someone that is reachable and could quickly attend to an emergency if needed. If you need help accessing your PowerSchool account please email

Preschool Parent Book Club

Our next Preschool Parent Book Club is scheduled for December 20th from 6:00-7:00 pm. This in-person event takes place at LLC in our gym. Our book club promotes Early Childhood Literacy components through questions and activities led by LLC staff. Stories are read in English and Spanish and students will go home with the book in their preferred language. We are thankful to the Morris Educational Foundation (MEF) for funding this wonderful opportunity.

Social-Emotional Learning Workshop

Social-Emotional Learning Workshop: December 16, 2021, from 5:00-6:00 pm in English and 6:00-7:00 pm in Spanish. Click here for the flyer. Printed flyers will be sent home in your child's backpack as we get closer to the date.

Community Parent Involvement Specialist Looks to Launch MOMS Group

MOMS, an acronym for Moms Offering Moms Support is a group we'd love to launch. We have been getting feedback from parents about having a moms group similar to the Fatherhood Program. We would love to get feedback from all the mothers about starting this MOMs group. Meetings would be held every other month at LLC with a tentative time of 5:30-6:30 starting in January. Please click here to fill out a survey. Thank you and we appreciate your feedback.

Fatherhood Program

We had our first Fatherhood Program meeting in October and it was a success. However, we would love to have more father or father figures participate in our next meeting on December 9th from 5:30-6:30 pm at LLC. A printer flyer will go home in students' backpacks. Nathan Umbriac, our lead dad hopes to see you there!

LLC Committee Updates

We are thankful to our parent representatives that joined our two school committees, including the Wellness Committee, and the School Safety and Climate Committee. One of the suggestions and changes implemented from our parent input was to provide more options in our menus that satisfy our students that are vegetarians. Thanks to our Food Services Director, Linda Ladocetta, she added some daily vegetarian selections to the menu. Click here to view: Lunch Menu; Breakfast Menu

Normandy Park Information Session

Normandy Park School will be having a Virtual Kindergarten Information Session for prospective 2022-2023 families. Please join them to learn more about the multi-age program and community on December 9th from 6:30-7:30. See the flyer for more information:

Flu Shots

All preschool students must receive an influenza vaccination by December 1st. Please ask your child's pediatrician to provide written proof that your child has had their flu shot. If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Deb Korczukowski: 973-292-2222 ext. 1111

Many Thanks to the Morris Educational Foundation (MEF)

Thanks to the MEF and its generosity, we have been awarded a grant of $1742.52. These funds will give our students at LLC and at our partner sites an opportunity to bring the farm and curriculum together for meaningful experiences. Our students already enjoyed the pumpkins at the patch and look forward to more activities ahead! The MEF rocks!

Morris Educational Foundation (MEF) Teacher Tributes

The teachers and staff in the Morris School District continue to go above and beyond to make this school year a success. Recognize these creative and dedicated educators with a Teacher Tribute! Honor administrators, coaches, counselors, assistants, custodians, librarians, nurses, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, secretaries, and of course, teachers by making a donation in their name. With your tax-deductible donation, your honoree will receive a personalized certificate with your message to display.

Make your holiday shopping easier this season by honoring special people in your child's school with a Teacher Tribute! $10 minimum per tribute: The deadline for Delivery before December Break is Friday, December 17, and orders received after will be delivered in January 2022.

Tree Study

All of the students have been enjoying the Tree Study. Here is a picture of Timmy and Maimouna showing off their drawings of trees.

Discovery Area

The Discovery Area in the classroom is a place to spark children's curiosity by offering authentic and interesting materials. In this area, children like to investigate and inquire using their senses to touch, feel, taste, smell, and see. This area is usually stocked with natural items like shells, seeds, rocks, leaves, or live items like plants or even a pet fish! It also has tools for classifying or weighing like scales, magnifying lenses, and containers. To best support students, a variety of materials is key.

You can create a discovery at home by gathering items from the outdoors like sticks, leaves, rocks, and acorns. Items from the kitchen that offers children a sensory experience are also great such as flour, water, small pasta, and measuring cups.
