Chapter 3: Structuring and Delivering Your Lessons
Technique 21: Take a Stand
This technique involves pushing students to actively engage in the ideas around them by making judgments about the answers their peers provide. You can increase the number of students who participates in and process a part of the lesson by responding by: "two snaps if you agree; two stomps if you don't." It can be whole class ( "Stand up if you agree with Cathy.") It can be verbal or gestures: Show me your hands what the remainder is." It can be evaluative: " How could she check her work to see if she is right?" or " How many people got the same answer as Paul?"
Take a Stand helps students process more content and it helps you check for understanding.

Transfer Window
The transfer window is now open for students wishing to attend a different HEB than their home school. The window is also now open to apply for our Spanish Immersion program that begins in first grade.
HEB employees who live outside the district and have their children attending an HEB school, must make contact with Liz Richard at 2032 during the transfer window to keep their children in HEB. Out of district employees must do this annually. The window for transfers is Janauray 4 through February 29.
Friday, January 15
On Friday, January 15 we will have a noon dismissal day. We will have a modified lunch and PEFA schedule on this day.
We will have MC PD in the afternoon starting at 1:15. We will have a Team Huddle with our APEX Fun Run partners at 1:15. They will give us in formation about the program, the connection to positive character traits, the daily classroom visits and their goals for us, in addition to raising money for our PTA.
Based on feedback from our Leadership Team and the six week surveys, our focus for our PD will be student behavior and discipline. The plan is to provide more information on CHAMPS since we know that their is much more to the program than what we have implemented so far. We are working with Patricia Demaree on a training on strategies for the more challenging students. More on that to come.
Save our Copier!
The small copier is for just a few copies, 5 to be exact, it is not built to make multiple copies of class sets. Be sure to use Stephanie. She is quick and helpful, if you get your copies turned in at least 24 hours a head of time.
Please do not use the small copier to make copies for your entire class. If you have an emergency, leave it with Peggy, Diane or Doreen and we will get it copied for you.
Attendance
Reminders...
Please be at your door at 7:45 to greet your students. It is important that you are in your classroom at the start of each day.
Thank you for keeping your web page updated on your home page and on your MOOSE weekly assignment pages. This is another way to provide customer service and to make great first impressions with potential families!
Be sure you are traveling with your students in the hallways at all times. Your presence alone will reinforce the CHAMPS behavior that we expect of all students.
