Eagle Flyer
March 2021
Dear Rosa Parks Golden Eagle Families,
Kids Heart Challenge 2021 is almost here!
During the week of March 9th, Mrs. Pernot and Ms. Chimento will be kicking off our American Heart Association event, Kids Heart Challenge (KHC), in PE class. This program focuses on teaching our students the importance of taking care of our hearts by doing simple things like drinking lots of water, being active every day, avoiding tobacco, and being kind to ourselves and others. The students will learn all about their heart and how it does its amazing job. This year’s program is all virtual and so cool! The students will work as secret agents fighting America’s #1 cause of death, heart disease. Please join our team of secret agent Heart Heroes by registering your child at heart.org/KHC or by downloading the Kids Heart Challenge mobile app. Check it out!

Immunization requirements for students returning to buildings:
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) reminds school divisions that immunization requirements have not been waived during the pandemic and that they apply to all students admitted, whether learning is virtual, hybrid, or in-person. As provided in the VDOE Superintendent's Memo 001-21 (Word), the Code of Virginia § 22.1-271.2 and § 32.1-46 identify the type and schedule of immunizations required prior to school admission. The 90-day conditional admission permitted for students to complete an immunization series has or will end soon. Returning students who are conditionally admitted must show documentation of immunization or have a medical or religious exemption to comply with enrollment requirements set forth by Virginia law.
Families are encouraged to make appointments with their pediatrician or primary care provider now to avoid any delay in admission. Immunizations may also be obtained through local health departments. Lack of proper immunization can lead to a vaccine-preventable disease and further complicate symptoms of colds, flu, or COVID-19. Any administrator who has questions about immunization requirements should consult with their assigned school nurse.
To schedule immunizations, you may contact The Manassas Health Clinic, located at 9301 Lee Avenue, Manassas, and there is also a Sudley North office of the clinic located at 7751 Ashton Avenue, Manassas. Information about both offices can be obtained by calling 703.792.6300. The Woodbridge Health Clinic is located at 4001 Prince William Parkway, Suite 101 in Woodbridge and can be reached by calling 703.792.7300.
