Philip II of Spain
Hapsburg Family
Spain Under the Control of Philip II
Philip the Second was the Spanish monarch/king from 1556-1598. During those 42 years, he achieved many things. I will get more in depth in future sections but some of these things included, the Spanish Armada, taking control of the Philippines, and converted many people to Christianity (which he firmly believed in)
The Spanish Armada
Though his attempt failed, Philip II arranged an armada, or a fleet of ships for attack, to invade and take over England. To successfully, gather an armada and convince your country to invade another empire shows that he was well respected.
The Philippines
Philip II was in control when Spain took control of the Philippines. In fact, he was so credited with the invasion that they named the group of islands after him.
Maria Manuela
Maria Manuela of Portugal, was the first of Philip's four wives. She also happened to be his first cousin. She died after giving birth to Philip's first son in 1545.
Philip II of Spain
Philip the Second was born on May 21, 1527 and he passed away on September 13, 1598. He had four wives over the course of his life and had three children total. During his reign, he supported and enacted the Spanish Inquisition to try and convert more people to Christianity.
