The fruits from teaching can remain invisible for 20 years.
From Mrs. Moore's desk
Today we made a parent cry-
As I was giving a tour to a new student, there were a couple of times that her mom literally started to cry tears of joy. She mentioned multiple times that she truly feels her daughter will be cared for here in our school. The mom shared that people in this community have been very nice to them (for their 4 days that they have been here), but that she was still super nervous about our school. Our new young lady is in a wheel chair, and the mom was absolutely shocked that we still plan to include her in personal health and wellness (and by divine timing of our tour she saw first hand another student in a wheel chair PARTICIPATING with his class and being fully included). Each person that met the new family acknowledged our new girl and said something friendly. I know that we never know what we are going to get when we meet a new student, but I am sure that their apprehension is way worse than ours. To all of you who have gone out of your way to appear excited to meet our new kids (I know that you are thinking about your "big class", where you are in the unit, that you already have your kids paired up evenly for an activity, you may have a sub on their first day, etc) but helping them to feel at home is so powerful. We will get all of the details worked out, it may be a wild ride-but thank you for making the student feel welcome and special. I can not imagine moving to a new school in middle school (guessing it is pretty much never the students' idea nor are they excited about leaving friends behind)-so thank you for being kind as this child may be living their own version of their greatest nightmare.

What's a Normal Day For You?
If you walked by Mrs. Winthers room in the last week or so I bet you didn't even bat an eye at the tent she had set up in the corner. It is all part of the fun here at MMS and you can be sure that her students remembered the lessons that went along with the tent!
