2020 WMS Band Spring Trip

It is that time year again! Our Spring trip will be taking place on Saturday, May 9th to Schlitterbahn Waterpark in New Braunfels, TX. We are extremely pleased with the amount of donations raised during our fundraiser this past Fall, however, it was not enough to cover the cost of taking charter buses. After polling parents, we determined that parents were willing to pay a small fee in order for our students to take charter buses.

This year's Spring trip cost will be $20.00. This will include charter bus contribution and their souvenir 2020 Spring trip shirt. Letters with more detailed information will be distributed on Monday.

Instrument Contracts and Usage Fees

All instrument contracts should have been turned in at this point. Students have been given copies to take home for a parent/guardian signature if they have not turned one in yet.

Usage fees for school-owned instruments, including percussion, are set at $75 for the duration of the 2019-2020 school year. You may pay usage fees in one installment, or you may pay half in the Fall and half in the Spring.

Usage fee due dates were set in the Band Handbook as follows:

Complete fee or first payment- September 5, 2019

Second payment- January 16, 2020

**Usage fees are utilized for routine maintenance and yearly cleaning. It is critical that all usage fees are paid in order to maintain the quality of instrument that the students of PFISD are fortunate to have been provided with.

Advanced Bands Practice Schedules

In preparation for our UIL Evaluation taking place on March 5th and 6th, the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will be having the following practices throughout the month of February. All students are required to attend and will NOT be allowed to perform at UIL if they are not in attendance.

There will be tutorial buses available for them to ride on at the conclusion of practice. Please make sure they know their address and/or neighborhood to let the bus driver know where to drop them off.

Thank you so much for your continued support!

Third 9 Weeks Band Objective Sheets

Listed on this form are all of the assignments that are to be completed by all Band members throughout the 3rd 9 Weeks. The majority of assignments may be completed on our ipads and should take no more than 3 minutes to complete, so long as the student has prepared for it beforehand. The completion of these assignments is vital to their success future performances.

UIL Concert and Sight Reading Evaluation

The band's version of the STAAR test will be taking place in March of 2020. Every class period and before or after school rehearsal is in preparation for that evaluation. Please ensure that your student is in attendance, as it allows us the opportunity to provide individualized help by instrument. We like to explain the full band class as having a class with different subjects (i.e. math, science, history, etc.) being taught at the same time; each instrument is its own subject. Rehearsals outside of class allow us to teach one subject at a time. We thank you in advance for your continued support of the Wildcat Band as we work to earn the coveted SWEEPSTAKES award in March.

Daily Individual Practice and Practice Logs

Did you know?....

That the more consistency our band members have with their daily practice, the greater improvements they will make in their individual playing. Please encourage your student to practice on a daily basis! It should only take anywhere from 15-20 minutes to work on the parts of their music they struggle with.

Band students do have practice logs due at the end of every week. They do require a parent signature if they are practicing at home, or a band director's signature if they are practicing at school.

We thank you for encouraging your students to practice their instruments daily. It will greatly increase the quality of performance at our upcoming concerts!
