The Wise Wing
May 9, 2022
Hello May🌼
Greetings, Amazing Families,
Thank you for helping us celebrate our amazing Hilburn Teachers last week. We are so fortunate for the wonderful teachers we have in our family.
This week we will celebrate our Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Ann Johnston at the annual WCPSS Teacher of the Year County Celebration!
Thank you for those of you who took the Panorama Survey. We did not make it to 500, but we still appreciate your responses! Our PTA has launched their annual survey this week and we are inviting you to share your responses with them as well! The whole purpose of PTA is to enhance your child's educational experience, so please take a few minutes to reply!
This Wise Wing has important information in it! Please review it fully!!
Let's have a great week!
Sincerely,
Mariah Walker

Dear Hawk Family,
As some of you may already know, last week, the School Board appointed me as principal at Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy beginning in July. While this is a new opportunity, it does not make it any easier to think about missing you and your amazing children.
Family is not born, it is created. In every call, wave, hug, challenge, and interaction you’ve become family to me. Your children and your family have a special place in my heart. You’ve allowed me to be a part of your lives and the story you are writing for your family. Through your stories and experiences, I’ve grown as a principal, teacher, and mother. As I think about how much we’ve been through together, there are not enough words to effectively summarize how much our school means to me.
We’ve been through so much together. I’ve been with you as you cried leaving your kindergartner and I’ve been with you as you cried leaving celebrating your 8th grader. Through the exceptional challenges of Covid-19, we’ve also found comfort in one another. I’ve been so proud of our community and how we’ve supported each other in challenges.
I am already thinking about how much I will miss you and our sweet nest. I love our students deeply and I love how much we love and care about each other.
Thank you for extending your support, kindness, and love to me over these last years. The horizon is still young, we still have time to be together and bask in the joy of our Hilburn family. I hope we can enjoy the moments in front of us richly, while cherishing the moments behind us, deeply.
With love and eternal gratitude,
PRINCIPAL INPUT SESSION!
Hilburn Hawks,
It has been an absolute JOY to serve our nest. I have been blessed to call our school home over these last few years. It is very important to me that our next leader knows just how special this family is. Please join us to offer feedback, wisdom, and insight as our Area Superintendent begins the search for our next leading Hawk! Details to participate are below. I hope to see you there!
With Love,
Mariah

This year, students who do not score at benchmark on their EOG will have the option to take the test a second time. You can read more about this option in the letter below. Help us plan for retesting by sharing whether or not you will have your child participate in this option!
