Citizens should rule the world
"The Lottery" and "Harrison Bergeron"
Thesis Statement
The government should let people be their own person and should stop the deadly traditions that applies to the towns/ communities.
"Harrison Bergeron" Kurt Vonnegut, "The Lottery" Shirley Jackson
· In “The Lottery” and “Harrison Bergeron” their governments are controlling of their community’s/ town. In the lottery, everyone had to pull a piece of paper out of the black box and in “Harrison Bergeron” everyone had to look and think the same. This proves that their governments are very controlling.

“ A stone hit her on the side of the head. Old Man Warner was saying, "Come on, come on, everyone." Steve Adams was in the front of the crowd of villagers, with Mrs. Graves beside him.
‘It isn't fair, it isn't right’, Mrs. Hutchinson screamed, and then they were upon her[DC1] ” (Jackson 7).
Analysis; I think this quote explains that the stones that were thrown in The Lottery, was very deadly[DC1] . This supports my thesis because it is actual proof that the stones being thrown can kill someone because everyone participated in throwing them.
Harrison Burgeron
“ THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General”.
Analysis; This quote explains that the government was controlling Harrison and made him wear all types of stuff because he was different than the others. This is no good because no one should look the exact same and people should be themselves.
