We are so excited to see you!
Please remember to have your child wear a mask. No one will be allowed to enter the building without one. Not to worry, we have extras located at every door if a student forgets their mask!
Have a safe Labor Day weekend! See you on Tuesday.

Arrival/Dismissal
Due to increased safety measures, our arrival and dismissal procedures needed to be altered to keep cohorts of students together and safely distanced both inside and outside. While I realize this will be a change, and might result in families needing to use different entry/dismissal doors, it is the safest way to allow our students to enter and exit the building. Please take a moment to read everything as each of our procedures are listed below.
Grade level(s) signs will be posted on each door and staff will be outside to help guide your child(ren) into the building and find their appropriate classrooms. In addition, social distance markers will mark locations for students to stand while waiting to enter the building. (Parents waiting for students to exit should also use the social distance markers while waiting for their children to exit.) Entry and exit doors were chosen to allow students to enter the doors closest to their assigned classrooms. Please see the map below, welcome back video and directions for each grade level.
Arrival (See map)
Kindergarten: - Students will enter through Mrs. Bergin's and Ms. Egger's classroom doors.
First Grade : Students will enter the door off of North Prospect Avenue and proceed directly to their classroom.
Second Grade: Students will enter the door by the open field behind the gym and go directly to their classrooms.
Third Grade: Students will enter the door by the open field behind the gym and go up the stairs to their classrooms.
Fourth Grade: Students will enter through the main entrance and use the main staircase in the middle of the school and walk to their classroom.
Fifth Grade: Students will enter the door off of North Prospect Avenue and walk up the stairwell to their classrooms.
Dismissal
Dismissal will be staggered for students. We will begin with dismissing students who are walking home and students using the car line will be dismissed when their car enters the car line (see below for more descriptions).
Walkers:
If your child is walking home with a sibling, they will need to meet their sibling outside at a pre-planned designated spot. Staff will be at each location to monitor students and ensure students are appropriately socially distanced.
Important: Please talk to your children about expectations for walking both to and from school. Students will be supervised on school grounds - no group gatherings will be allowed. However, it is important to talk to your children about keeping a social distance from their friends while they walk to and from school.
Car Riders:
Each family was mailed their assigned number to display this past week. Please make sure you display your family number on your windshield so that we can quickly and efficiently call down your child(ren). Staff will be communicating to the teachers inside to dismiss your child(ren) once you are in the car line. This will allow us to stagger dismissal and reduce the need for students to wait outside. We will mail the "family numbers" home this week, so we are ready for the first day of school. (This will come in handy during thunderstorms and ice storms.)

*Science and social studies asynchronous instruction will be provided by D181 Teacher Librarians. Instruction in science/social studies will begin on September 21st after the transition period ends. Each teacher librarian will be responsible for an entire grade level of students across the district. Teacher librarians will also host 20-30 minute office hours for the purpose of answering general questions regarding the lesson or activities assigned. Office hours are not intended for tutoring. During the transition period teacher librarians will introduce themselves to students and ask their students to complete an assignment introducing themselves. The teacher librarians, content and grade level assignments are listed below.
**Independent Free-Choice Reading - The teacher librarians will facilitate the process of daily independent reading at home. Our classroom teachers will continue to assist students in selection of independent reading materials from classroom libraries. The teacher librarians will continue to assist in their building library book check out. Books will be quarantined in between check outs for safety purposes.
