A Glimpse of this Past Week...
Can you believe we are half way through the fourth quarter! It seems like only yesterday when this school year began and now we are looking to the end! We certainly have had a lot going on this past week so there is no doubt that the last few weeks of the 2017-18 school year won't be slowing down!
Crazy to think that it is mid April and we had to cancel after school activities Wednesday due to snow and ice! Unfortunately, not only did we fall behind on our sports schedule again, but the French Honor Society Induction Ceremony had to be postponed and the last Black Box rehearsal before Dress Rehearsal had to be cancelled. Fortunately we will be able to reschedule many missed events, and the Black Box opening performance of Godspell was a great success!
Mrs. Widhalm took her Comp Speech students to our Deanery schools this past Tuesday & Thursday. These Marian students have been working hard writing and illustrating their own children's books to read to the primary students. They also developed some activities to go along with their books. If you get a chance, ask one of these students to see their books... they did a great job!
Another exciting event of the past week was when our WYSE Team went to state! We cheered them off during the crazy weather of Wednesday afternoon, but that didn't stop them! Shelby Truckenbrod earned 5th in Biology, Jack Popovich earned 4th in English, and Joseph Noonan earned a 5th in Chemistry and a 6th in Math! Wow!
Our week ended with an all school mass on Friday, which was a wonderful way to end the week.
Looking ahead...
We have a busy week coming up! Hopefully our juniors and seniors can stay focused this week, with Prom coming up on Friday!
Some highlights of this week include:
- There will be a Code Red Drill this week. It is "unannounced" so we will not be telling you what day or time so please review the procedures and be prepared so that our students will not be alarmed. Remember to stress to the students that it is ONLY a drill.
- We have a brief Homeroom on Wednesday for our juniors to vote for the Prom King and Queen
- There will be a Pep Assembly this coming Thursday to celebrate our teams followed by our traditional Powderpuff Boys Volleyball game Thursday night. Come out and see our juniors and seniors battle it out!
- Friday will be an early dismiss, as Friday evening is Prom. Remember senior teachers, our seniors sold the most raffle tickets for our Marian dinner auction so they earned a "day off" on Friday. This does mean, however, that in order for senior students to be able to go to Prom Friday night, they must be at school for the full day on Thursday. This rule also applies for our Juniors for Friday's attendance.
Our final Loyola inservice will again be a working lunch so we can get you out as soon as possible... especially with those working prom. Once the students dismiss at noon Friday, please make your way down to the cafeteria, get yourself some lunch (Marian provided), and sit with your department PLC Teams. Please click here for the agenda. Please also note that you will need to bring the following:
- Your laptop
- A copy of the standards that your department uses (on your computer or a paper copy)
- ACT, Pre-ACT, PSAT data access (shared electronically earlier this year)
Have a blessed weekend and week ahead!

Senior Exemption Expectations
A quick note: Exemption forms are not due until early May, but we have already seen some forms getting signed by teachers. Please do not sign these forms too soon, as we know that there is still a lot of this quarter to go and grades can still fluctuate drastically. Thank you.
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) Renewal Information from ISBE
Please read the information below on PEL renewal from ISBE if your license is up for renewal in 2018. Remember that the Diocese expects that all teachers have a current Illinois PEL in order to receive/renew their contract.
"More than 200,000 educators have licenses up for renewal this year. To put this number in perspective, approximately 60,000 educator licenses are normally up for renewal in a given year. The 2018 renewal year is much larger than usual because it is the first year that educators who were issued a substitute teaching license (SUB) or educator license with stipulations endorsed for paraprofessional (ELS-PARA) in the 2013 certificate-to-licensure exchange will be able to renew these licenses.
As licensure renewal season approaches, ISBE is focused on educators having the best experience possible with the Educator Licensure Information System. ISBE will stagger renewal periods for educators according to license type in an effort to prevent the system from overloading due to increased user traffic.
- Educators who hold a PEL and ELS-CTE license with an expiration of 6/30/2018 may renew beginning April 1.
- Educators who hold an ELS-PARA license with an expiration of 6/30/2018 may renew beginning April 15.
- Educators who hold a SUB license with an expiration of 6/30/2018 may renew beginning May 1.
The “renewal” hot link in educators’ action centers will not be activated until the dates identified above. Professional development for this renewal cycle must be completed by Aug. 31, 2018, and all licenses eligible for renewal must be renewed by Aug. 31, 2018. Please share this important information with your educators. A short video is also available. Please contact licensure@isbe.net with any questions."
