DSC Child Nutrition Recognized for Providing Healthy Meals During Pandemic
Recently, Duneland School Corporation Child Nutrition Services Director Tammy Watkins (pictured at right) was recognized for the measures that were taken to provide students with healthy meals during the COVID-19 pandemic by Indiana Department of Education School and Community Nutrition Director Julie Sutton. The letter from Sutton commended Watkins and her team for their flexibility and creativity in responding to numerous challenges while transitioning from the typical school year cafeteria service to the COVID-19 grab-and-go meal pick-up and delivery models. She was also commended for finding ways to cover fixed costs, staff salaries, and COVID-19 expenses such as packaging supplies, grab and go carts, meal transportation costs and PPE, despite school closures and resulting declines in revenue.
Kudos to Tammy Watkins and those staff members who helped day in and day out to make the Grab and Go Meals program a success in our school community.

Foundation Awards Grant to Science Teacher
This virtual lab will allow students to engage in the learning process using technology to accomplish lab based skills, keeping students safer during the pandemic, while still allowing for “hands-on” STEM activities. Regardless of the way the school will operate (virtual, hybrid or traditional) this form of lab instruction will effectively meet educational goals while maintaining social distancing, eliminating the need for proper sanitation of all lab equipment between classes, and limit the risk of exposure to the C-19 virus, thus providing an environment that increases safety for students and faculty.
