The RISE Report

March 2022 Newsletter

In 1987, Congress expanded our celebration of now Women’s History Month from a week to a month. I was 9 years old when this change was made, the age of some of our scholars. Since its start, here in the United States, we have witnessed the first woman and first woman of color vice president of the United States, the U.S. military removing a ban against women serving in combat positions and more than a quarter of the 117th U.S. Congress’ membership is represented by women.

The 2022 Women’s History Month theme is "Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope." Rise’s vision is built on hope, the hope to be a collaborative school community, one where scholars sharpen their skills and talents to lead, change and revolutionize the STEM industry.

Currently we serve 186 brilliant young scholars and every single one of them has the power to use hope as an instrument for change - always remember their individual and collective strength to RISE UP!

MakerSpace

A collaboration between three scholar created designs will represent RISE during the LexArt HorsePlay event. Grace, 3rd grade, created the STEM drawings. Olivia, 2nd grade, added the mascot and logo. Malaiya, 3rd grade, used the Rise Pledge as her inspiration.

The three Rise artists along with Josie Yeast and Bushra Bekkousche were invited to Keenland for an event, Play Date, to kick start the painting of the horses!

Congratulations! We can't wait to see it!

Big picture

Outdoor STEM & Makerspace

Please continue to send in caps to Outdoor STEM, but for now, we do not need any additional materials, (plastic containers, toilet paper rolls, etc.)

We will let you know if we need anything specific in the future!

Saturday March 12th, from 9-12, we will continue our schoolyard garden project. Please join us to build 8'x8' community garden beds. We will have some tools on site, but if you have a drill driver and star bit or a shovel bring them with you. This phase of the project will result in 48 garden beds our families or community can reserve to grow your own vegetables and plants.

Volunteers Needed

In order to continue to offer this wonderful program, we need parent volunteers to help us during the meetings. Please contact Ms. Arnold, sydney.arnold@fayette.kyschools.us

to volunteer.

Dance-a-thon

Get ready! We are just days away from the Dance-a-thon!

Students, prepare to break dance, floss, nae-nae, and boogie your way through gym class! This fundraiser will be a great way for students to show off their dance moves and burn off some extra energy while having fun.

Information about pledges and rewards can be found on the Dance-a-thon form below.

Please join us for our next meeting, Wednesday March 23rd @ 6:30.
