Conferences
If you would prefer to have a separate math conference with me, please send me an email and I will arrange a date and time with you.
Looking forward to meeting you next week.
2nd Grade
Next week, we will continue with measurement. We will measure length and use standard units of measure to determine how long something is.
Try logging into www. prodigy.com to continue math practice whenever we don't have assigned math homework.
3rd Grade
The commutative property means that factors can be multiplied in any order and the product will be the same.
For example: 4 x 7 = 28 and 7 x 4 = 28 or 4 x 7 = 7 x 4
The distributive property means that students will keep one factor as equal groups and the other factor will be decomposed.
For example: 5 x 7 = 5 x (2 + 5) = (5 x 2) + (5 x 5) = 10 + 25 = 35
5 is the equal groups and 7 was decomposed to represent (2 + 5).
The associative property groups factors.
For example: 3, 2,6
(3 x 2) x 6 = 3 x (2 x 6)
6 x 6 = 3 x 12
36 = 36
Today I gave students a study guide which is due Tuesday, Oct. 23rd and a new Math Rules which is due Friday, Oct. 26th. Next week, students will have their math test on Multiplication and Division on Wednesday, Oct. 25th. Please review their math journals for notes on multiplication and division.
On Tuesday, Oct. 23rd, students will need their devices to play Kahoot during class.
5th Grade
Next week, we will learn about exponents and we will multiply and divide with the power of 10.
Many of the students do not know their multiplication facts fluently. Fifth grade math is very difficult without knowing these concepts. Please learn the multiplication and division facts. Practice everyday - even on the weekends. Have students play prodigy.com. They have their log ins.
