Hawk Nest Starts Again Next Week
Staff and students are excited! We will start our monthly Hawk Nest's again next Wednesday. Check out my short video telling you a little about it.
Also, if you have never seen it or are new to Holmes, check out our Hawk Nest video we created last year to introduce our community to our Nest.

School Fees
The district is currently accepting fee payments for the 2018-19 school year. Full payment is due by Sept. 30, 2018. You can access the fee information for the 2018-19 school year by visiting http://bit.ly/2MmjOht.
Securly Parent Portal
District 97 will continue using Securly this year to help us manage our Cloud-based filtering on all student devices when they are being used outside of the district’s network. As part of this decision, we will be introducing/launching the Securly Parent Portal, which we piloted with the help of a few families during the past two years. You can access more information about the Parent Portal by visiting www.securly.com/products/parent-portal. Please fill out the form found at http://bit.ly/2nHVVD2 if you are interested in using the Securly Parent Portal.
Celebrate Holmes Staff
Families, have you noticed a Holmes teacher or staff member who deserves a compliment or a thank you? Has this person made a difference for your child? Please share the reason in a brief email to me (czelaya@op97.org) so that we may recognize and thank them!

Community Hawk Nest
1. Holmes Fall Carnival is September 29 from 4:30-7:00 PM and we need your help! Thank you to those who have already volunteered to help with this year's Fall Carnival! For the second year running, the Carnival will be free for the Holmes community so there is a lot of work to be done to make it a success. There are still many open slots to help before, during and after the event: get involved in set-up, bring a baked good for the cakewalk, run a game during the event (no set-up required), or help us clean up after! You can even share a shift with a partner or another parent - older kids are welcome to sign-up too. Take a look at the volunteer slots here and sign-up! If you have questions, please contact the PTO Community Engagement Chairs and Carnival Organizers: Afshan Syed Norris at afshan.syed@gmail.com and Nicole Sumida at sumida.nicole@gmail.com.
2. It’s time to DINE OUT Monday, September 17! Take a break from cooking and come DINE OUT with your fellow Holmes Families and support the PTO!! Join us at Lou Malnati's on Monday, September 17, from 11am-11pm. Dine in or carry out and they'll donate 20% of your check back to Holmes. Flyers will go home in backpacks. You can also view the flyer in the following attachment.
3. Do you want to know more about allergies? Come to the OP Public Library on Saturday, Sept 15th from 2-4pm to listen, learn and ask questions about the very relevant topic of Allergies and Asthma. Dr.Pitud (a Holmes dad!) will be hosting a talk. It's free and for all ages. Here is the flyer.
4. Al Fresco Friday, Friday, September 21 from 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM. Join us on the playground after school for popsicles, cool water, friends old and new, and dance music! This outdoor social event helps us make parent and child connections outside of school, the school day, and hurried drop offs. Come make a friend, get to know your Holmes community, and enjoy the nice weather! All are welcome - parents, students, siblings. FYI-Al Fresco is canceled if it’s raining.
5. America To Me! Starting August 26, Starz will begin airing the documentary America to Me, filmed at Oak Park River Forest (OPRF) High School three years ago. The 10 part series about race and equity will be screened at the OPRF high school, followed by discussion. Visit the OPRF High School website here for more information. Holmes will also have a follow-up event to this series. Watch for more information.
