Columbia Heights Public Schools
Jan. 7, 2021 Update
A Message from Superintendent Stenvik
Dear Columbia Heights Public Schools Families and Staff,
Our country experienced an attack on our democracy yesterday at the United States Capitol. As a school community, we denounce violence and the unlawful interference with our Nation’s congressional processes. We know it is sometimes difficult to find the words to talk with children about these events.
Below are some suggestions for talking to your children about the violence that occurred.
● Responding to Children’s Emotional Needs During Times of Crisis (American Academy of Pediatrics)
This is a time for us to stand together. Public education is integral to the foundation of a strong democracy. As a school community, we reaffirm our commitment to educating our students through our core values of Community, Excellence, Collaboration, Integrity, Respect, Courage and Innovation, and our mission of “All Belong, All Succeed.”
Be well and be safe,
Zena Stenvik, Superintendent
Columbia Heights Public Schools

Winter Sports Update
Columbia Heights Public Schools will resume in-person activities the week of Jan. 11. We recognize that activities are important to your child’s social, emotional and physical well-being. The District is committed to providing a safe environment and will follow Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota State High School League guidance. For details about specific sports and start dates, visit the Activities web page.
Meal Delivery Continues through End of School Year
Thanks to funding from the Minnesota Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Columbia Heights Public Schools is pleased to be able to continue offering free meals to all students through the end of the school year.
Meal delivery continues to be available to students in Heights from Home and sign ups are still open. If and when students return to school buildings, all meals offered at school will also be free. Students who return to in-person learning will automatically be removed from meal delivery.
Healthy Hylanders
We want to see how you’re staying healthy at home! Right before winter break, we shared an opportunity for us all to be Healthy Hylanders to choose activities from five different categories (fitness, outdoors, nutrition, well-being and creativity) and mark them off as you complete them! https://bit.ly/2WHamsc
Share your photos and videos with us by using hashtags #HealthyHylanders and #HealthyFromHome or send them to your teacher for a chance to see your face on District social media!
