Food Service Update
Food Service Update: The Department of Public Instruction School Nutrition Team conducted an audit of our food service program and operations Dec 6th - 7th 2018. Overall they found that we are running an excellent meal program and have very knowledgeable and dedicated staff. They believe that students are offered fresh, appealing and nutritious meal options and that the meal preparation and service areas are clean and tidy.
One item that they requested us to change immediately, is to eliminate offering students who have reached a balance of over -$25.00 free fruits, vegetables and milk. They will not let the food service program absorb this cost going forward. Therefore, we must eliminate the negative $25.00 account maximum cap and charge for these 3 items as of January 7, 2019 anytime the account is over -$25.00.
Please note that there are already programs in place through the Federal Free & Reduced Lunch program to help families that need financial assistance. Please see our website at https://www.merton.k12.wi.us/families/free-reduced-lunch.cfm for more information.
The charging for food over the -$25.00 account maximum will only effect families that have not demonstrated a need for financial assistance. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Food Service Director Bethany Soderlund soderlundb@merton.k12.wi.us or Business Manager Sherri MacGregor macgregors@merton.k12.wi.us.
