Pop and Drops
We wanted to remind your teams that when you are considering pop and drops, please make sure all parties that need to be involved (current reading teacher, proposed reading teacher, IFs, and if possible, admin) are in the conversation with completed pop and drop forms. The data that is requested on the form is just the minimum to establish an understanding of the students progress over time. The section towards the bottom about differentiation and accommodations is very important and is often the part not filled out. The question I have been asking teachers when a move is brought up is: what will happen differently in the new reading class that the student isn't getting in their reading class to benefit them? By writing what you have done for specifically for that student, it lets everyone at the table know where to start if the move takes place without starting over. Even teams that discuss their plans together don't always know what exactly has been happening in regards to strategies, activities, etc. This level of detail during discussions ensures that intentional instruction is happening to meet the student where they are. Admin does need to sign off on moves prior to them taking place for the purpose of being aware of instructional changes and to check in on the progress of the student, just like an intervention cycle.
Classified Week
Please be sure to celebrate the classified staff member(s) you chose from the poster last week - any day you want is fine. Sunshine committee will be bringing snacks on Wednesday for them. If you would like to bring something on Wednesday or another, please feel free! We are still working on a sign up for coverage of Friday so they may have a longer lunch. I will let you know when it is ready.
