KINDNESS WEEK
Monday, December 14 - Friday, December 18
December is an exciting month at Fairview and one reason for that is our annual Kindness Week, which takes place this year during the week of December 14th. At this link you will find an overview of the week as a quick reference. Listed below are some items to note as parents to ensure your child is able to participate in the week in the most meaningful way. In addition to all that is listed below, we have activities and lessons planned for our students throughout the week during the school day as well.
Throughout the week, we encourage families to take a photo of themselves or their children doing something kind and send it in to Dena Conway (dconway@d57.org) by the end of the day on Wednesday, December 16th. These photos will be turned into a video slideshow to be included in a special video on Friday, December 18th that will be shared by teachers in class and in the newsletter. As our students do something kind for another person, they are encouraged to ask that person to “pass on kindness” to another person, so that one act of kindness can grow and have a positive impact on many.
Be sure to stop by our Fairview Winter Story Windows display along the east side of the building along Fairview Avenue. As you drive from north to south, look at the story being told in the windows and tune in on the radio to listen to the story being told as well. Click on this link for more details about this special event, which will be available to families between December 14th and January 4th. As you finish this experience as a family, we encourage you to donate some non-perishable food items in the designated bin as a means of showing kindness to our community. Special thanks to Ms. Voss and Mrs. Roberts for all of their hard work in planning this exciting opportunity!
Starting Tuesday, December 15th, families are encouraged to pick up a rock from the Fairview front foyer to take home and decorate with kind and encouraging messages. Once finished return your rock to Fairview and place in the labeled box in front of the school. The rocks will be used to form a rock garden outside of the school to help us remember the importance of being kind. Rocks will be available for pick up between Tuesday and Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm. Click here for more directions and details!
Also, Tuesday evening families are encouraged to tune in to the D57 Winter Singalong where your family can sing some familiar tunes and enjoy a few other surprises from the D57 Elementary Music Team. A link to participate will be emailed home some time during the day on Tuesday. It is sure to be a lot of fun!
Families are invited to pick up or print light bulb activity sheets to be completed and displayed in their front window at home to show the community that kindness matters at Fairview.
Be on the lookout for our Kindness Week video to recap the week that will be shared in the newsletter on Friday, December 18th.
The importance of being kind, caring about other people, and living in a way that makes a positive difference is one of our strongest values as a school community, and this week is designed to help instill this important message within our children. We hope you will participate as a family and enjoy all that we have planned.
