School Newsletter Week 8 - Term 4
6 December 2021
Nau mai, Haere mai, Welcome to our School
A very warm welcome to Mason Tua and his family who recently started at Paparangi School in Uenuku. Welcome to our friendly school Mason!
Wellington North Primary Schools’ Citizenship Award
Congratulations to Billie Chiet who is this year's recipient of the annual Student Citizenship Award. Each year schools in the Wellington North suburbs nominate a deserving Y6 student. The award is presented to a Year 6 student at each school who shows 'leadership, citizenship and contribution to school life'.
Billie is an active participant in many sporting events including basketball, touch and netball along with the cricket and football tournaments. Billie is an Eco-Warrior, and has taken part in Dance Splash and Kapa Haka with determination and enthusiasm. She takes time to help students and this has been well noted and appreciated by the other tamariki. With her additional roles of road patroller, peer mediator, jump jam performer, P.E. Shed monitor and assembly presenter, it’s no surprise Billie was voted the Paparangi School Citizen for 2021. Our congratulations to Billie, who is a shining example of an adventurous learner!
School News
Changes to EOTC Week events
Unfortunately the weather is against us for another year! Bad weather may affect some of the 'Education Outside the Classroom' events that were planned. Teams will be in touch by email with families to confirm arrangements or to let parents know what's been postponed or cancelled.
Next Monday is the last Enviro Day of the year, with different events planned for the day. Parents are welcome to come along and help in the gardens - contact your child's home class teacher to let them know you can help. We'd love to have you (subject to vaccine requirements of course!) Children, bring your gardening equipments, bucket and gloves - all named please!
Protection Framework/Traffic Lights
Our school is at orange with no changes to what's currently in place. We will be in touch by Friday about arrangements for next week, including pick up times on the last day. Last week's newsletter was about the new protection framework - search for #18 Covid-19 Notice in your emails:
- Vaccine information for parents, workers and volunteers
- Health measures in place at school
- Where to go to find out more about the protection framework
Did you make a donation towards a hoodie for another student?
A special thank you to the dozen families who donated money towards a hoodie, or several hoodies in the case of one generous family. We received enough donations for 13 children to get a sweatshirt of their own. Thanks for supporting our students in this way!
Health Curriculum Survey
The parent survey about Health Education has been shifted to term one next year to allow a longer response period for families. Information will be sent home when the new term begins.
Arrivals or Leavers?
If you or someone you know is intending to enrol their child at Paparangi next year, please ask them to contact the office before the end of the week to pre-enrol and collect an enrolment pack. We also ask that if your child is not returning to Paparangi in 2022 that you also contact the school office, so arrangements can be made to transfer your child's school records to their new school.
Emergency Packs
Emergency packs will be sent home to those families who have requested this on the last day of term and left over food items will be sent to the food bank on Monday 13 December. If you would like to have your child’s full emergency pack sent home and have not yet notified the school office please contact the office urgently. Thank you.
Back to School Stationery 2022
Qizzle are suppliers of school stationery packs next year. This is a stress free way to order stationery for your child/ren for the start of the year and ensures they have the correct stationery items at the start of the new school year. A brochure providing details on how to order stationery will be attached to next year’s stationery list, which will be sent home at the same time as your child’s end of year report.
Staff News
Congratulations to Loreece Vesty and her partner Ciaran who welcomed Oakley James on 26 November. Mother and son are doing well and our staff are looking forward to baby cuddles in the new year!
At the end of this year we farewell Rhiann Baker, Room 3 teacher. We thank Rhiann for her service to our school and her commitment to the students in Room 3 and Pounamu. We have enjoyed getting to know Rhiann this year and wish her all the best for new adventures at her new school.
Congratulations to Christine Latimer on becoming a fully registered teacher this month. Christine started working at our school two years ago as a beginning teacher and she has been an incredibly dedicated teacher right from the start. Well done Christine on your accomplishments so far! We are delighted that Christine will continue to work at our school in 2022, as a Rākau Nui teacher for another year.
We are also pleased to announce that Kath Leach and Andi Fancy, both new to Paparangi this year, are returning to Paparangi for 2022, working part time in various classrooms across the school.
Big Grocery Raffle
Wow! What a wonderful response there's been to the Grocery Raffle the Home and School is running. Thanks for your generosity with donations to fill the hampers and for all the ticket sales so far. Many families have asked for a second or third sheet!
It's not too late to send along items for the hampers. Return all tickets, sold or unsold, by Thursday. Send everything to the office. The raffle is being drawn on Friday 10 December. Home and School are fundraising for a new Outdoor Sound System, Y6 Leavers Gifts and the Senior Camp in February next year. Thank you for your support.
Activity Kits orders have closed and will be ready for pick up early next week.
Pizza lunch orders for Monday 13 December close on Friday 10 December at 3.00pm.
A gigantic thank you to Nicola and the wonderful Home & School Team for their mahi this year, running events, then changing events (due to Covid19) and introducing new fundraisers into the mix as well. I am very grateful for the dedication and enthusiasm of the committee and thank them for the support they give to our school in lots of different ways. If you aren't already, I encourage you to join this fantastic team of helpers in 2022. It's a wonderful way to be part of the school and support all of our tamariki.
Our Library is closed
Our wonderful library has closed for the annual stock-take.
It is time to return all issued books. Please check if you have any library or school books at home. There is a box in the office for returns.

Calendar Art orders are being delivered this week. Items will be sent home with your child by Friday.
This year the Home and School are selling mini photo frames as a fundraiser to fit the small portrait photos. You can place an order for photo frames using Kindo or send your order to the office in a sealed envelope - details below. Order forms are available in the office.
Kindo school shop - tips for school leavers
If your family is leaving our school and moving to another school that does not use Kindo for school payments, you need to close your account. If you’re not sure about the new school, log in, go to My Details and click on the list of schools, scrolling to find your new school.
If your new school is NOT on the list, use the 'close account' button on that screen. You can choose to donate your balance to school or have it paid out to your nominated bank account.
