ACP High School - Edition Vol 2 Issue 16
________________________________________
To our men and women in uniform, past, present and future, thank you. As former U.S. Representative Jeff Miller shared, “the willingness of America's veterans to sacrifice for our country, has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Thank you for your service and for providing the freedoms that we enjoy every day; and thank you to the military families for their support, resilience and sacrifice. Happy Veteran's Day.
Wow! We had an absolutely amazing and historic weekend! Three state championship trophies were won by our Knights yesterday. Our school's chess team won the AIA State Chess Team Championship yesterday afternoon, followed by our boys swim team winning the AIA DIII Boys Swim & Dive State Championship, and our girls swim team winning the AIA DII Girls Swim & Dive State Championship too!! Three state championships in one day and four state championships in two weeks. Absolutely amazing! Incredible work, Knights. This is our chess team's second state title and our swim teams first. In addition to the team swim championships, we had three individual state champions at yesterday's AIA Swim & Dive State Championship meet (see below). Congratulations to all the members of our school's chess team and to the swimmers and divers on our school's swim teams! I am so proud and happy for you all. You're officially the best in Arizona - job well done!
The state released their letter grades for Arizona schools last week and I am pleased to announce that ACP High School received an "A" grade by the Arizona State Board of Education. In terms of traditional 9-12 schools, ACP is ranked #2 in the state of Arizona, a quarter of a point behind University High School in Tucson. This grade is a testament to the hard work of our staff, students and support of our school community. Congratulations to our students and staff on the work they put forth and the continual effort they demonstrate to do their best in and out of the classroom every single day. You can learn more about Arizona's grading of schools by clicking here. Great work, everyone!
Please remember that there will be no school on Friday in honor of the Veteran's Day holiday. Because of the holiday, students are permitted to wear Friday attire to school on Thursday, November 10th. As we head into the fourth week of the quarter, please remember to monitor your child's academic progress as mid-quarter grades will be posted a week from Friday (Nov. 18th). If you have any questions about your child's academic progress, please contact the appropriate instructor or your child's counselor. Lastly, please consider donating to our Thanksgiving Food and Clothing Drive. The drive ends this week and the list of items needed are shared below. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. Have a very nice week.

ADOT Launches Contest
The Arizona Department of Transportation is hosting a student essay contest to determine which public schools will get an Arizona Centennial road sign that was originally installed on the state highway system in 2012 to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of Arizona gaining statehood. As ACP officially opened its doors in 2012, it would be a neat token to house on our campus.
The topic of the essay contest involves the five Cs of Arizona: Copper, Cattle, Cotton, Citrus, and Climate. Each of these five resources serves an important role in Arizona’s history. Students may choose one or multiple resources for the assignment. Describe why the resource, or resources, plays an important role in the economy and culture of Arizona.
Contest rules are as follows:
- Eligible students must be enrolled in 6th to 12th grades. The essays must be at least 400 words and be the original work of the student.
- One essay per public school is allowed to be submitted. The designated school administrator or official will submit their school’s essay nomination on behalf of the selected student.
- The deadline for submitting essays to ADOT is midnight on Jan. 31, 2023.
- Essays submitted from each participating school will be judged by a panel of ADOT employees based on originality, creativity, unique writing style and descriptive language.
One winning essay will be chosen in each Arizona county to receive a centennial sign. Winning schools will be announced on Feb. 14, 2023. Please submit your essay to your English teacher for consideration and help bring an Arizona Centennial road sign to ACP.
