Parent Conferences
Boosterthon
For the safety of our students, all guests will be required to have a name tag which requires your license to be scanned. You may fill out the RSVP form (copy below and one was sent home); however, your license must have already been scanned in our system in order to print you a name tag. You may take care of scanning your license when you attend your child's conference. As long as your license has been scanned prior to Tuesday, October 9, a pre-printed name tag will be ready for you to pick up when you arrive. If you have not had your license scanned, you will need to come into the front office to have it scanned before getting a name tag.
Free and Reduced Meals Information
Free and reduced meal eligibility must be updated annually. The grace period for students who were eligible last year ends on October 9. Please complete the form using the link below if you believe your child could be eligible for free or reduced meals.
Visit www.schoolcafe.com or the SchoolCafe app to apply.
Call 281-897-4550 or visit the Food Production Center at 11355 Perry Road with questions and for assistance.
Important Health Information
Health Screenings
Health Screenings will be conducted on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. All students will have height and weight checked. Vision screenings will be done on all students in grades K-5th. If your child wears glasses or contacts, please be sure they have them on that day. Hearing will be checked on all students in grades K-5th . If your child is being seen by a physician for hearing or vision problems, please bring a current report to the nurse’s office before the screen. Students in PPCD and PK will have vision and hearing done during the month of October on various days.
All students in 1st, 3rd and 5th grades will be screened for Acanthosis Nigricans (a marker that indicates an increased risk for diabetes) and all 5th grade girls will be screened for scoliosis.
Any student having difficulty with any of their screens will be reassessed in the clinic in the coming months. If the second screen is not passed, parents will be notified.
If you have any questions, please contact Joyce Chiasson at 281-213-1704 or joyce.chiasson@cfisd.net
Student Flu Shots
CFISD has partnered with Healthy Schools to bring no-cost flu shots to our students during the school day this Fall. Student flu shots will be given on Friday, October 19th. All students that returned a vaccine consent form will receive the flu shot on this day. Students will be provided with proof of vaccination on the day of the clinic. If a student does not receive the vaccine for any reason, they will receive a “Did Not Vaccinate” letter to take home. This letter will have an explanation as to why the student could not be vaccinated. If you have any questions, would like to sign-up for a flu shot or need to cancel a flu shot, please reach out directly to Healthy Schools by visiting their website (www.healthyschoolsllc.com).
4th Grade Program--Exciting News from Mrs. Gayle, Our Music Teacher
Parents,
Just a note to let you know that our fourth graders are preparing for their fourth-grade program “Music Changes Everything”. This program is for all fourth graders and will be on Tuesday, November 13.
We will be having two separate performances that evening.
Groups A and C will be at 6:00
Groups B and D will be at 7:00
Your child should know what group they are in. If you are able to help, we need tambourines. If anyone has a tambourine we could borrow for the performance please send it to school with your child. Put your name on it and it will be returned.
I appreciate your kind support in helping to make this a fun and exciting night for the fourth graders.
Sincerely,
Susan Gayle

The Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District Special Education Department provides educational services to an estimated 8,000 students with special needs.
Teachers, instructional aides, speech pathologists and related service personnel provide instruction and related services to students who have a disability. Cypress Fairbanks ISD instructional arrangements for elementary school-aged students include in-class support, resource classes and speech/language therapy. Preschool Programs for Children with Disabilities (PPCD), adaptive behavior, and LIFE Skills classes are offered as cluster services at the elementary level.
In-class support, resource classes, LIFE Skills, adaptive behavior and speech/language services are available at all secondary level campuses.
Related services may include psychological services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, orientation and mobility training, school health services, adaptive equipment and special transportation.

As part of the Northwest Harris County Cooperative for the Hearing Impaired, services for students who have auditory impairments are offered at Birkes Elementary, Hancock Elementary, Spillane Middle School and Cy-Ridge High School. In addition to receiving instruction at the on-site campuses, students may be served by itinerant teachers, speech pathologists, and/or an audiologist at their home campus.
Are you the parent of a pre-school (3-5 years) or school-aged child and have concerns regarding your child’s physical, speech, and/or emotional development? Is your child experiencing academic problems which could interfere significantly with educational success? If so, contact the Special Education Department at 281-897-6400 to discuss your concerns and learn more about the referral process.
Garden Day
Friday, September 28, our 2nd graders observed carrots! Students learned about the physical properties and health benefits of the root vegetable. They also tested if the root would sink or float. Students were so excited to see it sink! They also observed a monarch caterpillar and chrysalis, fall vegetables and a lemon verbena plant!
Second graders also helped to move soil into the new wildflower garden! They created a smaller, more manageable wildflower garden next to the butterfly garden. They also moved new soil into the vegetable gardens to prepare them for fall vegetable planting.
