Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
Thank you for helping us make this a smooth start to the 2017-18 school year. We’re only in week two and we’re already seeing high levels of learning in our classrooms! Students have catapulted gummy bears, dropped golf balls and participated in more collaborative activities to learn about mass, velocity, and other science and math concepts. Our sixth grade has rolled out Units of Study in language arts, and students have been writing about “small moments” and other experiences in evaluating good writing. Our teachers are excited to apply the engineering design process in all contents after a wonderful staff development led by engineers and scientists in our community during pre-planning.
Thank you DMS STEM and Fine Arts Parent Resource Center for coordinating this event.
I hope you will join us for Curriculum Night next Tuesday, August 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. All grade levels will meet that night. Ask your student for his or her schedule so you will know where to start. We will begin promptly at 6. You will begin the night in your child’s homeroom and then follow your student’s schedule through all academic classes.
As a reminder, we are dismissing an hour late (5 p.m.) on Monday due to the eclipse. There will be no check-outs between 1:00 and 3:10 as we will be preparing for our students’ viewing of the event.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Deborah Fusi, Principal

Gwinnett to delay dismissal by one hour on August 21
In Gwinnett, the near-total eclipse is expected to begin around 2:35 p.m. and will last approximately two minutes. While it may be tempting to brush off warnings against looking up at this eclipse bare-eyed, don’t. The light
of an eclipse really can damage your eyes.
In order to help ensure the safe viewing for our students and a safe dismissal of students,
Gwinnett County Public Schools will delay dismissal for all schools by one hour.
