Let's Keep our Buses Clean
It's Hot
July 2022 has set records in Dallas-Fort Worth with 27 out of the 31 days were100 degrees or higher and the heat is expected to continue.
With extreme heat - we need to make sure we take the necessary precautions and actions to stay safe to minimize any heat-related illness. There are three main types: heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Go to Extreme Heat | Ready.gov or to this CDC Guide on Extreme Heat for more information. Also, remember that the power grid is overstressed which means that we may have black outs at schools and / or at the service centers. This may cause emergencies for which STS may be called upon to assist in transporting students from one building to another.
Be kind to yourself
- Wear appropriate clothing. Shorts are an acceptable part of the uniform during the summer months.
- Stay hydrated - drink more fluids, regardless of how active you are. Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink.
Cool the Bus
- We need to make sure we allow the buses to cool for approximately 30 minutes prior to picking up students. Do not leave any windows or doors open while the a/c is running, this will help keep the cool air in.
- After the morning runs and the bus has been returned to the service center, leave the doors open - if possible, open the back doors as well. This will allow the heat to escape when the buses are parked in the direct sunlight.
- Use the roof hatch as a ventilation system for mitigation against COVID.
Students
- Students will be allowed to bring water bottles onto the bus to be able to stay hydrated.
Wildfires
P - Pull the pin between the handles
A - Aim the hose or nozzle at the base of the fire, leaving a distance of 6 -10 feet
S - Squeeze the fire extinguisher handle
S - Sweep the extinguishing hose or nozzle from side to side to cover the base.

COVID (airborne)
The fast-spreading BA.5 subvariant of Omicron and its close relative BA.4 now make up around 95% of COVID-19 cases in the U.S., according to estimates published Tuesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
We must continue to offer masks for our riders and we strongly encourage our drivers and monitors to wear masks. Additionally, we will continue with our COVID mitigation routines including disinfecting the buses and ensuring ample amounts of hand sanitizer are available for staff and students.
Referral Incentive
The CDL driver must reach forty-five drive days on assigned route based on the 185-work day calendar for the driver referrer to qualify for the payment. The supplemental earning amount is $200 / approved referral.
