Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart
The year is flying by--the first 48 of 180 days have gone by in a blink. As we hustle around with the day to day things on our to do list, this time of year reminds me that we need to take pause and be grateful for every moment of the young lives of our children. These days are fleeting and as the present quickly registers as the past, we lose ourselves in the hustle. Dr Seuss said it beautifully when he said "Sometimes you will never know the value of the moment, until it becomes a memory."
As we reflect on the many blessings things for which we are thankful, I want to take this opportunity to share my gratitude with you. We are so very thankful for our children who come to school every day beaming with smiles and ready to learn – they are the heart of our profession and remind us of what is important and why we are here. We are thankful for the support of the parents and volunteers in creating an outstanding partnership for our students. We are thankful to have the most dedicated and talented teachers here at LDS. Words of thanks are not enough for our assistants, bus drivers, secretaries, custodians, nurse, lunchroom teachers, support staff, therapists, and administrators who really care about student achievement and have the best interests of our students at heart.
Each day we see dedicated and tireless individuals going above and beyond to make sure that great things happen in our school. They do make a difference, and the children most certainly benefit from those efforts.
Most importantly, thank you, the families, for having faith in us. You share your most valuable possession with us and together we work hard and advocate as a team to be a partner in your child(ren)’s education, safety and well-being.
We would like to wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Benbrook
Report Cards
Dear Parents,
You are cordially invited to attend our 14th Annual Laura Donovan School Turkey Trot on Wednesday, November 27st (in case of inclement weather the trot will be moved to the gym and will be for students only). The Turkey Trot has always been a “Trot for Those Who Can Not,” while promoting an active lifestyle and raising funds for a good cause. This year we will be donating the proceeds of the LDS Turkey Trot to raise funds for Pediatric Cancer in honor of Olivia Lipnicky, student at Joseph Catena School, and every other child and family who are confronted with this terrible disease.
Students, along with their family and friends, will walk around the field at their designated time. A school schedule is listed below. Students will be walking/running around a half mile path starting at the kindergarten blacktop for approximately 20 minutes. At the end, students will be brought and reminded about the sense of community and the role they can play in helping others.
Students should wear sneakers on this day. Since the turkey trot is a fundraising event for our community, we are asking for a donation to be brought in the day of the event.
We invite you to walk/run with your child for these 20 minutes to help promote a healthy lifestyle with the entire family while donating to a worthy cause. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in making this a positive experience for the students at Laura Donovan School. Please sign in at the blacktop.
