Many Hands, One Mason!!
December 16, 2019
Dear Mason Families,
Happy Monday! It is hard to believe that we are in our last week of school before our big Holiday Break! Special thanks in advance to all our families who are helping our staff orchestrate their holiday parties this Thursday. We could not celebrate the holidays like we do without your support. Feel free to check out our @masonelemgp twitter page to see all the festivities that will be taking place this week.
Over the break, please take this time to enjoy your friends, families and loved ones. Please keep in mind that the break from school will be filled with awesome learning opportunities for your child. The holidays offer real world lessons like empathy, kindness and generosity which we are constantly discussing with our learners daily at Mason. The entire Mason staff wishes everyone a wonderful Holiday Break and a Happy New Year! We look forward to seeing everyone at school Thursday, Jan. 2nd at 8:20 am sharp.
Have a wonderful break,
Roy Bishop, Jr.
Principal
Special shout--out: Thank you so much to the Kroger on Mack and their front end team for donating supplies to our Mason learners who made 100 lunches for the homeless. We appreciate your generosity and helping our learners better understand what it means to make a difference in the real world. Thank you Mrs. Aouad and Mrs. Rokicki for your leadership!!

Strings Extravaganza 2019 - December 17, 2019
Date: December 17, 2019
Time: 7:00 p.m. (Fifth graders arrive no later than 6:15)
Place: Grosse Pointe South High School 11 Grosse Pointe Boulevard, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236
String instrument students grades 5-12 will perform for you on Tuesday evening, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium at Grosse Pointe South High School on Grosse Pointe Boulevard at Fisher in Grosse Pointe Farms. This is a very special concert which will showcase your child’s musical learning, and acquaint you with our district’s fine music program and the opportunities open to your children. Following are the expectations of your child in this concert event:
All Fifth grade string students arrive at Grosse Pointe South High School no later than 6:15 p.m., wearing nice clothes (no gym shoes, please). They should bring their own instrument, and proceed to the smaller gym marked “Fifth Grade Strings.” There will be signs pointing the way. Here they will unpack their instrument and place the closed case against the wall.
Parents should keep their own child’s coat.
Every fifth grade string student is expected to attend this graded performance.
Students then report to the large gymnasium, where their instruments will be tuned and they will be seated. Quiet and respectful behavior is expected of each child before, during, and after the concert.
The concert begins promptly at 7:00, and you will hear from string students at each grade level. I am confident that you will enjoy hearing your child perform, and the students at each higher grade level will give you and your child a fantastic preview of what instrumental music has to offer throughout their time in Grosse Pointe Schools.
The concert is about one hour long. Your child is expected to stay for the entire concert.
At the end of this event, fifth graders will be released first, to return to the small gym to pack their instrument. Parents will pick up their child from the small gym.
I look forward to presenting your children and their musical learning at this year’s Strings Extravaganza; see you then.

Waste Free Wednesday
Our Mason Green Team needs your help for yet another important green initiative we’re rolling out...Waste Free Wednesdays. Your child watched a quick two-minute video on how to reduce the amount of garbage we’re creating during lunch. We challenge all staff and students to bring a Waste Free Lunch to school every Wednesday. Here’s a link to a brief video you can watch to learn more about how to reduce or eliminate trash in your child’s lunch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPkVQSSWmpQ
Thanks for jumping on board and developing a healthy environmental mindset for our kids and our future!
