Vaccinated Students & COVID Testing
Hello District 103 families,
We would like to provide some clarification regarding COVID testing for fully vaccinated students. Fully vaccinated students do not need to participate in the weekly COVID testing program for the year. Additionally, they would not need to quarantine or utilize the Test to Stay process if they were identified as a close contact unless they exhibited COVID-like symptoms.
However, if there was an instance that a test was needed, such as the child was exhibiting COVID-like symptoms while at school, we could administer a test to help verify if the child had COVID. By signing the consent form in Unified Classroom, it provides an option for your child to have a COVID test provided by the school district. For more information, please review the letter below that went out earlier today.
Thank you,
Scott Warren, Ed.D.

COVID Testing for D103 Students
Dear D103 Families,
We are excited to welcome all our students back to school on August 19! The District continues to improve our mitigation efforts to keep our staff and students as safe as possible and keep everyone in school.
To accomplish this goal, we are offering weekly COVID-19 PCR testing to all families free of charge. Additionally, if your child is considered a close contact while exposed to COVID at school, we have a “Test to Stay” option where your child may be able to stay in school and not quarantine if your child participates in COVID testing. We will use a combination of the PCR testing through O’Hare Clinical labs that will be sent home on Thursday nights, and the BinaxNow test that we can administer at school with results in 15 minutes. If your child does not participate in COVID testing, this option would not be available to your family. We highly encourage all families to opt into this opportunity as the goal is to increase school community health and safety by preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Testing is voluntary and will require consent to participate. If a child were to test positive, your child would need to isolate and follow the guidelines listed in the IDPH Interim Exclusion Guidance. If your child is found to be a close contact, District 103 will consult with the Lake County Health Department and follow the options listed in the IDPH Revised Public Guidance for Schools.
For information on testing, please refer to the below documents.
Consent Form - Please log into your child’s Unified Classroom account to access the digital form to give consent for both the PCR and BinaxNow tests. This short video is provided with step by step directions for completing the form.
The consent form must be completed prior to your child participating in the COVID-19 screening and the “Test to Stay” option instead of quarantine. We will begin screening testing on August 24 and the “Test to Stay” option on August 19. The form needs to be completed once to participate for the year.
Thank you for your continued cooperation as we work together during the pandemic.
Sincerely,
Scott Warren, Ed.D.
