Kiss the Cow Contest
Moo-rific - We are A - moo--zing! We have made our goal of 8,000 books and read 8,976 books so far! Pucker-up Ms. Waehner - that cow is coming and it is ready for a great big kiss!
It is going to be a great assembly, but remember if your child has not read and recorded, on the website, the minimum number of books for their grade level, they will not be invited to the assembly. Your child still has until April 6th to qualify to see the assembly - so keep reading and recording! Let's see how many books we can read before the event ends! Stay Moo-tivated!

Kindergarten - 30 books
1st grade - 30 books
2nd grade - 20 books
3rd grade - 10 books
4th grade - 10 books
Hello Oak Grove Community,
The Internet is a great place to find fun and educational sites for kids. Growing up in the digital environment of today, kids have access to resources unlike anything that adults had during their childhood. With the increased access kids have to the World Wide Web at school, many districts have put into place Internet filtering hardware and/or software to help protect children for coming across inappropriate Web content. At Oak Grove, we use a product called Lightspeed Systems that helps manage the students’ access to the Internet. Our Internet filter helps protect students from accessing inappropriate web content when at school. That’s great, but what about when students go home and access the Internet on their home network?
Home Internet access can also be filtered depending on who the home Internet provider is. Many companies that provide Internet access to residential users also provide parental controls that can help kids have a safer experience when using home Internet. Parental controls can help prevent access to inappropriate websites and may even be able to block sites based on how they are categorized. Depending on the provider, some parental controls can even limit the amount of time a child can spend on the Internet each day. Parental controls are usually free with Internet service. Check with your home Internet provider for the parental controls they provide. Here are links to three popular residential Internet service providers: AT&T Internet Parental Controls, Comcast (Xfinity) Parental Control Page, and Verizon Internet Parental Controls (See Parental Control section of router user manual by router type)
If basic parental controls are not enough, then check into purchasing more advanced third party products that can do much more than those offered by residential Internet service providers. Features can include limited access to games based on Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) ratings, ability to monitor instant messaging conversations, and can even push control up into the home router so that all devices, PC and otherwise, are managed to a degree beyond what the Internet service providers offers. A few highly rated products can be found in this PCmag.com article that compares parental control and monitoring products. Higher rated products from this article include: AVG Family Safety, McAfee Family Protection, and Safe Eyes 6.0.
