My Two Week Absence
I have had several questions from students and parents about my absence the last two weeks, so I wanted to let you all know why I was out. I spent my summer caring for my mother who was diagnosed with lung cancer in early July. She put up one heck of a fight, but lost her battle against the terrible disease on August 23rd. She was doing well with her treatments, but took a very sudden turn for the worst on the morning of the 23rd. I am an only child and my dad passed when I was just 12, so this has been very difficult for me as you might imagine. My 2 children have had a difficult time with her loss as well. I had planned to come back to work on the 30th, but I knew I couldn't be the best version of myself for my students, so I waited until this week to come back. I am very happy to be back and working with your sweet children. I have been blessed with an amazing group of students and I look forward to getting to know them better as we learn and grow throughout the year.
Reading Logs
In order to save paper, I have asked the students to log their reading minutes in their agendas this year. The log for September is on page 21 of their agenda. They are expected to read at least 15 minutes each night, Monday through Thursday. Please have them write the amount of time they read/book they read and you can initial each day. Thank you so much for helping them out with this. Great readers make great leaders and together we can help your child be the best reader they can possibly be!
Kona Ice
We will have our first Kona Ice day this Friday, September 9th. If you would like your child to purchase a Kona Ice, please send in exactly $3.00 with them Friday morning. Please place the money in a baggy or a labeled envelope. Thanks a bunch!

Picture Day
Picture Day is next Wednesday, September 14th. Information about this was sent home yesterday. Please send your kiddos with their picture forms and their best smiles as they cheese it up for the camera next week. :)
