Argon
Ar
by Jenna Sosebe
My Element is Argon. Argon's symbol is Ar. Its atomic number is 19 and its mass number is 39.948. It's in period number 3 and group number 18. It's group name is Noble Gas, so therefore it is a gas. Argon is a non-metal. Argon gas is used in arc welding, used in flourecent lights, and makes up about 1% of the earth's atmosphere.
arc welding
Argon provides excellent arc welding stability, penetration, and bead profile on these base metals.
flourecent light
The central element in a fluorescent lamp is a sealed glass tube. The tube contains a small bit of mercury and an inert gas, typically argon, kept under very low pressure.
earth's atmosphere
The gases in Earth's atmosphere include:
-Nitrogen – 78 percent
-Oxygen – 21 percent
-Argon – 0.93 percent
-Carbon dioxide – 0.038 percent
