Sixth Grade Newsletter
February 17, 2019
Dear Parents,
Here's what's happening at school this week.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Conferences will be held Tuesday, February 26, 4-7 PM and Thursday, February 28, 12:30-3 PM and 4-7 PM. We look forward to seeing you!
English
The students have completed their non-fiction pieces, and they are amazing! I can't wait to share them with you at parent-teacher conferences. This week, we will begin reading the novel A Long Walk to Water. It takes place primarily in South Sudan, and will be a great tie-in to our Social Studies unit on Africa.
We will have our usual grammar/vocabulary quiz on Friday as well.
Enrichment Writing
Math
Last week, students took their Chapter 5 test. They will be able to retake the test on Monday, February 25th. Students also learned how to convert units in the customary system, as well as the metric system. They have two assignments due on Monday. They are: page 313(1-11) and page319(2-14)/page 320(1-6). This week, students will continue to work with measurement, and they will also learn about exponents.
Enrichment Math
Last week, students did an experiment that will eventually help them understand scatter plots. This week, we will continue to analyze the data from the experiment.
Social Studies
Science
We will continue to look at the types of plate boundaries and types of landforms/natural disasters each type of boundary creates. We will also look at the rock cycle and how it applies to subduction zones, volcanoes, and mid-ocean ridges. We will then begin to look at individual natural disasters, how they form, and the long-lasting effects they have on the Earth, its people, and the Economy.
