Smile! Picture Day is right around the corner!

Picture Day is on Tuesday, October 6th. Uniforms are not required, but we'll be sure to put on our fancy pants and dressy shoes! All students will have their photos taken, photo packages can be purchased once proofs become availible.

Back to School Night!

Our BPCS Back to School Night is Thursday October 8th, from 6-7:30 pm. We are looking forward to sharing more about our curriculum and class culture with you.

Hello Community of Readers, Writers and Mathematicians!

We have had a very busy first full week of school. We have launched Reader's and Writer's Workshop, jumped right into our Math Curriculum, and began our IB unit on Community! It has been a whirlwind of learning in our classroom, and we love it!

This week we have been getting to better know each other as individuals, as well as KA as a group of learners. We have enjoyed singing songs, playing games, sharing about ourselves, reading exciting books and sharing about the neighborhoods we live in. Through all of this we have been able to create a caring and warm classroom where all welcome.

Part of our community building in KA is using names to address individuals. Today your child was sent home with a packet that contains pictures of the students in our class (except one who will be arriving later this month!) and pictures of our Specials teachers. Please make time this weekend to check in with your child about who is in class and who teaches her/him Art, Spanish, Science, Dance, PE and Music.

Volunteer for Morning Read Aloud!

KA loves reading and read alouds! If you would like to join us for a morning read aloud, please do so by using the link above to sign up. We can't wait to have you in for a visit!

IB Learner Profiles at BPCS

As an IB World School, BPCS strives to foster the growth of students both academically as well as internationally minded citizens who are aware of the world outside of their local environment. To do this, the school incorporates the IB Learner Profiles into the classroom. The IB Learner Profiles describe a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities and, in turn, embody traits of a well-rounded individual. The Learner Profiles are: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Open-Minded, Caring, Risk-Takers, Balanced, and Reflective.

Throughout the year, we will be discussing the Learner Profiles in the classroom as a way to bring to life the traits. Starting in October, our school will focus on how a person demonstrates they are Caring. One who is kind and respectful and considers others' feelings when making choices. A person who takes care of their classmates, classroom, and school. An individual who notices how others feel and strives to have a positive impact on their day.

¡Hola, KA habla español!

KA started this school year in full Spanish Immersion. ¡Sí! No inglés. Solo español.

Everyday in our class we use music to sing, dance and explore the Spanish Immersion. We learn how to greet, how to introduce ourselves, and now we are exploring body parts in Spanish. We even get to create our group Spanish Monster!! Uyyyy… ¡Un monstruo!

We are going to learn MUCHO ESPAÑOL!

-Ms. Rosado

Here you can find our Spanish Hits! Keep practicing at home!

Our favorite song is Atención-Atención

KA Kicks the Year Off with International Dot Day!

CONGRATULATIONS to KA Artists who kicked this year off strong. Together, we read books about dots and helped create our first BPCS ART installation of the year—inspired by the work of Yayoi Kusama! This week your students were thrilled to make their first visit to our the Studio Lab. What a year we are going to have!

FYI : Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in joining us for ART. Extra hands are welcome (but I do want to plan for your visit). If you have creative expertise to share, we could design a project together! Additionally, we are stocking up on recycled materials for art making, please: colorful plastic caps, corks, tubes, buttons and game pieces in bulk, and dryer lint! Many thanks!!

KA Celebrates the End of Summer with Music!

KA got "into the groove" of the school year by singing songs about the ocean and learning to play our Rhythm Sticks in Music Class! We look forward to building our own percussion instruments this fall and request that parents please bring in any empty coffee cans to help with this project!

-Ms. Raccio
