Empire Students,


You are nearly there, the end is in sight! In just over 3 weeks you will be completing the final trimester of this school year. Don't stop working now, finish strong! I am proud of the work you have completed up to this point.


Below you will find important announcements and information about the rest of our school-year and next school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me any time.

Final Exams

Final exams or End of Semester Tests are worth 20% of your final course grade. Make sure you are prepared! Students will be able to use prepared or printed notes on final exams but they must be hard copies as students will not be able to access notes on their Chromebook during testing. Please see the final exam schedule posted below to see when you will be testing. Students can take up to three finals in one session. Students with four or more classes should plan to attend 2 sessions.

Other Testing

Empire students currently enrolled in Biology Semester 2 for the first time will take this test on May 10th at the Boys and Girls Club-Thorton Teen Center. Please see the address below. Students should arrive for testing by 8:30am. Students will need to bring their charged chromebook & earbuds/headphones that fit their Chromebook. The ILEARN is an untimed test but is estimated to take 100-150 minutes. Students will take breaks, including time for lunch if needed. Students may bring their lunch or one will be provided for them.

Chromebook Turn-in

All Empire students (grade 9-12) will be returning their chromebooks to BNL during a designated drop-off time. Please be watching your emails (parents and students) for further details about these times.

*Students who are participating in summer school will be able to keep their Chromebooks for the summer.

2021-2022 School Year

All Empire students in grade 8-11 will be scheduled for in-person classes at BNL for next school year unless they had applied for Empire within the application period and were approved.

Senior Send Off 2021

BNL will be hosting its 1st Ever “Senior Send Off ” on Tuesday, May 25th during Advisory and 3rd Period! Come hang with your classmates one final time as BNL Stars!
Seniors will enjoy a free lunch provided by Judah’s Catering outside on the softball field with their entire class. There will also be games and giveaways during the event! Cornhole, Spike Ball, 9 Square, and much more! Don’t miss the chance to win gift cards, Ray-Ban sunglasses, and AirPod Pros!
You must complete
the Google Form (link below) by May 7th! No exceptions - if you do not complete the form, you will not be able to participate in the free lunch from Judah’s Catering (there's always school lunch).

Graduation Practice & Tickets

Graduation Practice will be Friday June 4th at 9am in the PAC. All students participating in commencement are required to be at the mandatory practice. At practice we will rehearse commencement details, and recite each name. Each student will then receive their 8 graduation admission tickets.

Letter Jacket Order

It is letter jacket order time. If you have earned a varsity letter in a sport at BNL, you are eligible to purchase a letter jacket. Please contact Jeff Callahan in the athletic department to submit your order. Email - callahanj@nlcs.k12.in.us, office phone 812-279-6444 or cell 812-583-3197.

Summer School options

BNL is excited to announce two summer learning opportunities for BNL Students! BNL Summer School & Achieve Summer School. BNL Summer School is a virtual summer session - BNL Courses taught by BNL Teachers. BNL Students may register for two credits for free! Achieve Summer School is a partnership between BNL and Ben Davis’ Achieve Virtual Academy. Students may register for up to two credits at Achieve. Two great options - you may enroll in BNL or Achieve, or you can even sign up for both BNL & Achieve, earning up to 4 summer credits!
