WIDA Can Do Philosophy
Do you have a philosophy for serving the English learners with whom you work? How do you recognize their assets, contributions, and potential in your classroom? As professionals, we must have these beliefs articulated and in place to frame the work which we do everyday.
It is also important for students to develop their own belief statement. Try this with your English learners and ask them to identify their assets, contributions, and potential. What a powerful tool to empower students in their learning process!

ACCESS 2.0 Test Planning and Preparation
From the School Leader Memo 12/11/2015
The ACCESS 2.0, formerly known as ACCESS for ELLs, is a federally-mandated English language proficiency assessment that all ELLs in grades K through 12th must participate in annually. The assessment measures English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
The testing window for ACCESS 2.0 will begin on February 8, 2016 and run through April 1, 2016. Beginning with the spring 2016 test administration, the ACCESS 2.0 will now be administered online for students in grades 1 through 12. Students in grades 1 through 3 will take the writing subtest on paper. Kindergarten and Alternate ACCESS will continue to be administered in a paper-based format. Alternate ACCESS is the ACCESS test designed for ELL students with severe cognitive disabilities who participate in the OAAP assessment.
To help facilitate the transition to the ACCESS 2.0, we have created some resources (attached) for action and information. Please contact Laura Grisso, grissla@tulsaschools.org, with any related questions.
Action required for Principals by January 15th:

OELA Presents! Pathways to Postsecondary Education and Career Training Success (Webinar)
Date: December 17, 2015
Time: 1:00pm CST
Many immigrants face significant barriers to postsecondary access and success, though the challenges vary significantly by region of origin, age at the time of immigration, and citizenship status. Immigrants who enter the country between the ages of 13 and 19 statistically achieve the lowest levels of education. Further, in the realm of postsecondary education, many immigrant college students are non-traditional students, including those who attend college part-time and may also have dependents—all factors which have led to immigrant post-secondary completion rates that lag behind the U.S. average. In this final webinar, panelists will share current research on how to create accessible pathways to postsecondary education and career training for immigrants.
Check the webinar series page for materials from past webinars and information on future ones.
