MHS Updates
What are our goals?
- Focus on What Matters
- Increase Academic Achievement
- Have "order" on campus (structure/procedures/expectations)
I have attached attached the results of our 2017-2018 AzMerit Data. MHS demonstrated strong gains in ELA. Algebra I and Geometry continue to make progress as well. You will find that Algebra II had a large dip. This was somewhat expected as we are in the final stages of our transition from the block schedule and number of honors courses vs regular courses. We expect growth in 2018-2019. As I told staff, we are doing a good job moving proficient students, but we need to bring our focus to students who are demonstrating minimal to partial proficiency.
Content learning teams will be working hard to meet our school goals along with their own personal/professional goals. We have improved data collection that will bring more immediate support to students. We believe that Power Hour will provide the during the day intervention needed for all of our students.
As the year progresses, I will provide you with academic data to show our progress.
AdvancEd Accreditation Visit Coming this Spring
Part of the process requires stakeholder feedback via surveys. Below is the first of several surveys that I will be asking parents to fill out. The survey is short in length and shouldn't take long to fill out.
- Item drop-off is a courtesy, but we will not disrupt instruction time to call your child to the front. Students will be called during passing periods and at lunch. Please do not text your child to come up to the front.
- Power Hour starts this week. Any student with a D or F is required to attend office hours. Students should be signing up this weekend for with their specific teacher.
- Student dress was much better this week, but it is important that we continue to support the district dress code.
No Need to Call if Your Child is Tardy
The data is clear that attendance has an impact on student achievement. Everyone's goal should be to get to school on time and make the necessary adjustments to make this happen.
