Questions about Hybrid and Comprehensive Distance Learning Instruction

I am working through the questions families sent to me through email and asked at the Kx5 parent meeting last Thursday. Before the end of the day tomorrow, I will send an update to the MLC community addressing/answering as many of the questions as possible. Additionally, PPS was in negotiations this weekend with the Portland Association of Teachers. If any updates from the weekend bargaining are available tomorrow, I will include those details as well. Finally, Governor Brown will be updating guidance this week about social distancing in schools. This doesn't automatically mean it will change, but it is possible.

School Photographer Coming to MLC on March 15th

Dorian Studios will be coming to MLC on the afternoon of March 15th to take school pictures. We're glad to finally be able to provide this opportunity to families. Special thanks to Kathleen Frutiger, MLC Secretary, for her efforts in organizing a full-day of pictures within current pandemic restrictions. Dorian Studios is also our yearbook publisher. Photos taken by Dorian Studios are automatically imported into our yearbook.

Social distancing and face coverings will be required. We are required to submit a safety plan to PPS for this type of event and follow all requirements. Additionally, look for signs about where to park on the front black top because LIPI drop-off will happening at the same time pictures are starting.

As the official school photographer for Metropolitan Learning Center we are excited to take your photos. Cut and paste the link below into your browser to schedule an appointment for your student(s).

Appointments are strongly recommended to insure safe distancing between students and can be scheduled using the link above. If you are early please remain in your car until 3 minutes prior to your appointment time.

Check in at the cafeteria door. When you enter we ask that you wear your face mask until your appointment starts. Our photographer will also be wearing a mask and we will be sanitizing often.

Pre-Order Pictures Today!
You have the ability to pre-order pictures only by visiting and searching for your school name. Your online order can be placed now and up to four (4)
days after picture day.

Any HS student that missed our October photo session is welcome to join us on March 15th.

Materials Pickup

There will be no materials pick-up on March 15th because of school pictures.

PTSA Book Faire, Craft Faire

Much appreciation to the MLC PTSA for the group's ongoing support of students and families in the MLC Community. The MLC PTSA helps provide supplies and programming that directly benefit students as well as providing financial assistance to families. Please see the MLC PTSA website for information about the upcoming Book Faire and Craft Faire. Proceeds from the Book Faire go to the MLC Library. The 7x8 Builders' Club elective is organizing the Craft Faire.

Successful Schools Survey

Please complete the Successful Schools Survey. This is an opportunity for families to provide input and feedback through a survey that is used at all schools across PPS. The survey is open through March 19th for families. After you click on the link, select MLC from the drop-down menu. The survey has about 50 questions. Students will complete the survey within the school day. The window is open through March 12th for students.

Virtual Office Hours

With PPS' transition to Hybrid Learning coming up soon, Mark will be hosting a virtual office hour every Friday for families to drop-in and ask questions.

Yearbook Updates (Updated 2/24/21)

Senior Families: Melanie Jeudy recent sent an email about senior photos and a baby photo request for the yearbook. Please take a look at that email for details about how to submit those photos for the yearbook.

Yearbook Updates

  • Yearbook Photos Please:

    • Every couple of weeks, we will be putting out an ask for the community to please email photos to Melanie at Please include your student’s first and last name and grade and what is happening in the photos that you send. This week we are asking you to please send photos of:

      • New hairdos, hairstyles or hair colors

      • Selfies! :) (Please no hand signals of any kind)

      • Newly learned skills during COVID-19/Distance Learning (Example: Melanie learned how to do the "Floss" dance move over winter break)

      • Fall-O-Breations please. This can be any celebrations or traditions that you and your family do in the fall.

      • Back to School/School Set Up During Distance Learning please. We all know school is looking different this year, so if you have first day of school photos, or photos of your student at work that you’re comfortable sharing, please do!

      • Elective Photos

      • Winter Celebration/Tradition Photos

      • Winter Break Photos
