Message from the Principal
Dear Lynnhaven families,
It is so hard to believe that this edition of our family newsletter is the last one of the year. Where in the world did this school year go? I feel like it was just August and September when I met many of you for the first time.
This has been an exciting year for our students, and they have worked so hard over the last eight months. I have enjoyed celebrating their growth with them as I know their teachers and you have as well.
As we move into testing season for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, please know that our students are more than a test. I want them to try their very best, take their time, give it their all, but most importantly, I want them to know that at the end of the day, they are just as important no matter the outcome. Some students will fail, some will have an opportunity to retake, and many will pass. None of that will measure the worth of them personally.
Thank you for helping me lift them up every day, but especially during the testing season. Our LES Lions are amazing! I look forward to celebrating with them their continued growth this school year as we round out the year. I wish you all a wonderful end of the year and a restful summer. Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us each and every day!
Sincerely,
Teri Breaux

School Start Times
For the past four years, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) has been engaging in conversations regarding a possible shift in school start times. Following the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach's vote in November to approve a resolution to change school start times, VBCPS administration began developing four schedule options that would provide adolescent students more sleep time.
Now, VBCPS is seeking feedback on those four options from students, staff members, parents and Virginia Beach community members.
Currently, the public can weigh in on the four potential options by visiting the school division's e-Town Hall survey.
The survey will be live until Wednesday, May 15.
Additionally, for those interested in learning more about the medical research behind the change in schedule as well as the development process of the options, the school division is hosting three community meetings in May. Attendees will hear a brief presentation and have the opportunity to weigh in directly on the school start times options. The schedule for the meetings is as follows:
- Monday, May 6 at Bettie F. Williams Elementary School
- Tuesday, May 7, at Landstown High School
- Wednesday, May 8, at Plaza Middle School
All community meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Your input is important! Thank you for taking the time to voice your opinion on this important discussion.
Not Receiving Text Messages?
How do I know if I have Opted-in?
You can check if you are opted-in by texting “Y” or "YES" to 67587.
How do I opt-out?
You may opt-out at any time by texting “STOP” to 67587.
What if I opted-out but later decide I would like to opt-in again?
As long as your child’s school has your text-enabled phone number on record, you may request to begin receiving text messages by texting “Y” or "YES" to 67587. If the school does not have your text-enabled number on record, you will need to contact the school.
