Growing hearts and minds for a better today and tomorrow: every day, every way, every one.
Principal's Messages
Dear families,
I wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU for your support and understanding as we navigate these uncharted times. We miss seeing you and your kiddos so much!
This week teachers continued to connect with students, some created Youtube videos, had whole class Zoom meetings, and used other means to personally connect. We are getting creative and starting to adjust! I got to FaceTime with a few students and attended a Morning Meeting. Seeing the smiling faces of some of our children was exactly what I needed!
Our faculty and staff meet virtually everyday, and we are working on a special project that will be out soon! It is so important that we keep connecting.
Please feel free to reach out at any time. I would love to virtually see you and your kiddos!
Take great care,
Katherine
Hiawatha playground update
EWSD is working with the Junction and Parks and Rec to close off all playgrounds due to safety concerns. Signs and some fencing will be going up to help support this.

Hello Hiawatha Families!
I miss you all. I am enjoying seeing many of you at Maple Street each morning at the Food Services Drive Through. Through my contact with families and the community I wanted to provide some guidance on a couple of things.
Pediculosis (head lice) is a common problem in school-aged children. Statistics show head lice are found in 3-5% of the elementary population at any given time. The main mode of transmission of head lice is contact with a person who is already infested. The good news is, with everyone practicing social distancing, the spread of lice should be at a minimum. Lice does not carry significant medical risks. I recommend weekly checks of your children/s scalps and hair. If you suspect or find head lice on your child, please contact your school nurse for assistance and advice. You can visit the Health Office webpage on Lice: https://www.ewsd.org/Page/6012
Resources on COVID-19 can be found at: https://www.ewsd.org/covid
Another great community resource is dialing 2-1-1. What is it? It’s an Information & Referral (I&R) service. It brings people and information and services together. This resource can answer questions you may have about how our changing circumstances are impacting you, your physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing.
If you have any questions, concerns, or just need to talk, please feel free to email me at rmaher@ewsd.org or you can call/text my cell phone #598-6081,
Thinking of you all,
Nurse Reyna
A message from Mr. Evans
Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all doing well during this challenging time.
As time passes, so might our needs around food. Please let me know directly if food insecurity becomes an issue as the weeks go by. If you already let us know that food is an issue you don't need to respond as we have that information. This is for folks for whom food is not an issue right now but becomes so as time goes on. And for everyone, below is a link to food resources during this Covid-19 time.
Thanks and be well,
Scott Evans
