Mrs. Neal Is Reading...
Why should you read it?
Because it will leave you with question after question, and just when you start to get some answers... you'll have twice as many questions! I can't put it down!

Animal Farm Continues
As we have read Animal Farm, we have focused on answering two Enduring Questions:
- What happens when the desire for power conflicts with obtaining it through violent or immoral acts?
- How can power strengthen or corrupt an argument?
We have studied the novel, the Russian Revolution, and the history of North Korea and the continued oppression of its people. On Thursday, October 29, all English II learners have the opportunity to Skype with the rescue team manager from the global organization Liberty in North Korea (LiNK) in order to deepen their understanding of

Rockstar Writers
Many wonderful Children's Stories were created at the beginning of this unit. Some of the top stories were shared with our freshmen learners who are learning how to analyze theme in literature. This collaboration in learning not only shows how well themes were developed by the sophomore learners, but also allowed the ninth graders a glimpse into what's in store for them this year. The picture shows a freshman covering her eyes because the story she was reading brought tears to her eyes! Rock on, writers!

Total Registration Is Now Open!
Total Registration, the website we use to register students for AP exams, is open and can begin processing AP exam orders. TR allows for partial payments for the exams so payments can be spread out over several months rather than all money due at one time.
Exams will be $92 each.
The link is also found on the Advanced Placement page under the Counseling tab on the CHS home page. There is a quick link for CHS AP Exam Registration on the right side of the page.
What's Next?
We will be reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding in the 3rd six weeks. Learners must acquire the book by Monday, 11/16. They can read the physical book or an eBook, depending on their preference.
I also encourage the learners to check out the Book Xchange shelf in our school library to see if they might obtain a copy there.
Want to Contribute to Our Classroom Library?
If you would like to continue helping build our library, you are welcome to donate books that you no longer wish to keep at your home. We are looking only for books that our learners desire to read. Just send any books to school with your learner, and your family's donation will be remembered inside the book cover.
