Shockley's October Happenings
What a great month we had!
October
Our New Class Pets
We participated in a grant program where our classroom received a free fish tank with 3 free glow fish. Students used switches and pouring cups to set up the fish tank. The students also help daily with feeding our fish.
Go Mustangs!
We attended our first Mustang Pep Rally of the year!
Nature Walk
We went on a nature walk to find pine cones and leaves.
IPAD Readers
We are using a website called Brain Hive to download books until the end of the year. Students hear a book read off the IPAD during calendar. Our 6th grade reading buddies are also using IPADs and Brain Hive to read stories to us.
Cooking Time
We used our switches, pouring cups, and adapted recipes to make make applesauce. It was yummy!
Tagxedo's
We chose our 15 favorite words about Halloween using pictures. Ms. Shockley then typed them into the Tagxedo website to make spooky word poems. We also worked on research projects about a specific animal. The students had to find words in the book about their animal to make Tagxedo's with.
Apple Prints
We used our leftover apples to paint. We sliced the apples in half, covered them with paint, and decorated our papers.
Trick or Treat
We went Trick or Treating around the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade hallways of Palmetto Middle School. Students took bags and voice output devices so they could say "Trick or Treat" and "Thank You". Students were required to hit the devices to receive candy. We also worked on our best hallway manners.
Welcome Kiko!
We spent a lot of time in the room watching Autumn the giraffe on the Earth Cam waiting on her to have her baby. We watched the press conference on the smart board to find out what the baby was and what his name was. We also got to visit baby Kiko at the zoo!
First Field Trip
Since our October Unit was on animals and where they live we took our first field trip to the Greenville Zoo! We walked around to see all of the animals (including baby Kiko). It was very crowded, but everyone had fun. We also had a picnic lunch at Cleveland Park.
Halloween Activities
We spent the last part of October working on Halloween Activities in the room. We made Herman the skeleton out of toilet paper rolls, talked about faces and made Jack-O-Lanterns, worked with spooky bugs by placing them longest to shortest and working on a class graph of spooky Halloween rings.
Halloween Party
We had a Halloween Party with a few 6th grade students in the library. There was plenty of music, food, and laughter.
