Weekly Update
Good Afternoon Harrowsmith Families,
Our grade 1 and 2 teachers hosted a Literacy night this week. Parents got to see first hand some of the great teaching and learning that is occurring here at Harrowsmith. The program centered around the Science of Reading, a program that is being adopted world wide. Parents received an electronic take home package full of great home suggestions. Please visit the Science of Reading Website where you will find an overview of the program as well as a section that makes for a good connection between school and home. Your kids will be excited to show you how the program works. http://scienceofreadinginfo.com/
A thank you to our Parent Council who provided a staff appreciation lunch today.
There is a PA day next Friday, November 10th! Harrowsmith staff will engage in a variety of activities, including; review of EQAO data, most recent report card data, a review of sections of “Visible Learing: The Sequel” by John Haatie as well as engage in conversation and planning about best practices for Language and Math instruction. Staff will also go through a variety of training modules that are required by LDSB. They range from Health and Safety to Sabrina’s Law.
We will be honoring Remembrance Day on November the 9th. Our school student council has been an integral part in planning a school ceremony. As well there will be several presentations done by classrooms and all classrooms will be laying a wreath.
We are hosting Bus Safety training on Nov. 16. There will be two sessions, one for grades JK through to 3 and another for grades 4 to 8. We will be excited to see Buster the Bus once again.
Harrowsmith did experience a late bus in the afternoon run this week. Bus 536 was delayed arriving to the school for almost 45 minutes. Generally we would not see this sort of delay at the end of the day as most delays occurs on the morning routes. In this instance the bus company operating the bus was notified by the school, the company then notifies Tri-Board who is responsible for all communication regarding bussing.
Just a couple of reminder:
- Our Poinsettia fundraiser deadline is Nov. 13
- The Book Fair will be hosted from Nov 27 to 30. Thank you to our parent council for organizing and staffing the book fair.
- Picture re-takes will be held on the 8th.
Have a wonderful weekend. Please reach out to us should you have any questions or concerns.
