PreAthletics Working Hard
Carolyn Brown, of Hey Dude, Nice Shoes, will be presenting to parents on Wednesday, September 19, at 6:30 pm in the PAC. Her presentation focuses on proactive and effective supports and solutions for parents on issues such as bullying and cyber-bullying. If you missed her amazing presentation last year, you will want to make plans to attend!
Carolyn Brown started speaking to groups about parenting perspective about six years ago. A word kept bubbling up in her discussions...Bullying. She would hear it on the radio, read it in the headlines and see it on the news.
Why is this suddenly such an epidemic and WHAT makes it different now?
In the past two years she has developed an anti-bullying/ pro-kindness workshop for students and their parents. "Hey Dude, nice shoes" is a presentation geared at educating parents about the who, what, when, where, whys and hows of Bullying. She has traveled all over the state delivering this message to thousands of students and their parents. Her goal is to educate and inspire children and adults alike to be the change and make a positive difference in our world. She covers everything from basic definitions and policies to recent legislation pertaining to bullying in schools. Through personal stories...and some hilarious pictures...she makes one relatable point - we are all human. We all are fighting a battle that no one knows anything about and we all can take a moment to be kind.

Meet Our Staff! All of our teachers at LVMS are amazing and we want you to get to know them a little bit better! Each week we will interview two staff members with some basic questions as well as some questions that were requested by students.
Kim Bentley - Special Education Teacher
Where are you originally from? I’m originally from Leander. I have lived in other places, but I have always considered this part of Texas home.
What led you to become a teacher? How long have you been in education? I have always wanted to be a teacher. I can’t think back to a time when I didn’t know that teaching was the path I wanted to take. In the classroom is always where I have wanted to be. After 13 years of teaching, I still can’t imagine doing anything else.
Tell us about your family. My family is my favorite thing to talk about. I love my people. My husband has been my best friend since high school. We have a son, Noah, who is a 7th grader here at LVMS. We also have a daughter, Laney, who is in 4th grade at the intermediate school.
What are your favorite hobbies? I enjoy reading, camping, boating, hiking, and most outdoor activities.
What is your favorite food? Gummy Bears! They should be their own food group.
Who inspires you and why? There are so many individual people that inspire me. Anyone who works hard, even when things are tough, inspires me. People who are joyful regardless of what’s going on, inspire me. I see perseverance and joy in people every day at school and that inspires me.
Do you have any pets? We have two small dogs, Lily and Asia. They are a big part of our family.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? A teacher
Danelle Curtis - Spanish
Where are you originally from? Winfield, Kansas Home of the WINFIELD VIKINGS!
What led you to become a teacher? How long have you been in education? This is my 15th year in education. I decided to become a teacher in college. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and my advisor encouraged me to take some education courses. She said I was a "natural" with kids and that gave me the confidence and inspiration to begin my journey in education.
Tell us about your family. I have 5 children. 4 daughters and a son. My oldest daughter Adler is 19 and a sophomore at Southwestern College, majoring in environmental science. Chelo, 18, is a freshman at Cowley College (both girls are going to school in Kansas) majoring in performing arts. She has applied for the Disney College Internship program next year! Crosby is an 8th grader at LVMS. She loves her new school and playing sports. She is currently playing volleyball for her school and softball for Texas Blaze. Paisley, 8, is in Mrs. Hernandez's 3rd grade class and loves dance, gymnastics and also plays Blaze softball. My little one, and only son, Jeter is 7 and in Mrs. Bingham's 2nd grade class. He loves school, baseball and playing Fortnight!
What are your favorite hobbies? I love to attend my children's events, attend concerts, travel the world and scrapbook all of those memories.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you want to go? I have been fortunate to travel to many countries around the world, many of those trips were educational and I led groups of student travelers. I have many places remaining on my wish list though! My goal is to visit all of the Spanish speaking countries of the world to bring back the knowledge and experience to share with my family and students!
What was your favorite subject in school? SPANISH, por supuesto!
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? When I was young I wanted to be a police officer or a lawyer when I grew up. It is interesting how plans change as you get older. I could NEVER imagine myself as anything other than a teacher now!!
